Daddy thanks for sharing the memories. Don't you wish could have bought all five and rat holed them? What a stash that would have been!

  2. Don, that's a great story. My brother bought a 63 Falcon Sprint in about 1965. 260 4 speed. He goes off to college and later tells me that he installed the hydraulic version of the hipo 289 cam and it didn't run any different. We wondered what the cam in it was? He bought one of the Cobra 3 deuce setups when they were less than $300 and put on it. My thought was that he bought a good one. That car ran great. Us old guys know that all the engines weren't the same back then.

Yep!---You are soo right!----But back then we were raising 3 kids & that $350.00 was a fortune to spend on a "frivolus" adventure!! I had to treat building my '32 roadster like a hobby, thats why it took 6 yrs. to build the car (1962-68), Girl scouts--Brownies--Little league,---You know what I mean!

You can't tell the kids to just wait, as they get big before you know it & you are walking down the aisle (with the girls), wondering where the time went! Now they are in their 50's----58--55--52 & I have never regretted the time well spent with them & sharing the '32 after it was finished in 1968.
My son wanted to follow in dad's footsteps, so after hi school graduation we built him a '29 hiboy with a 289 & 4 spd. painted bright Mac truck orange, then when he had his 2 kids they all enjoyed riding in his roadster!!-----YEP!---Time flies, enjoy it!!---Here's some pix-----Don:D:D 2009_07121962-----19680017.JPG

Got a question for some of you guys familar witht eh 260.Im looking at a mild cam with a duration of 256 and the intake valve lift is 0.477/ exhaust valve lift is 0.484.

But here lies my dilemma the valve stems on the 260 are 5/16 and the ones for the 289/302 are 11/32.On comp cams site there is no listing for the 260 application.
I spoke with a rep over at comp cams and he said that to make the cam run properly to maximize it's performance I woul need to switch to a higher spring ration. This would also help to reduce valve float.
The current ones I have are the stock oem springs which are rated at or around 160-178.The ones that go with my cam selection or rated at 284.Do you think this could eventually led to problems such as a broken stem if I switch out to the higher rated springs?
Maybe the only other option would be to machine my heads to except a bigger valve but to me that would be a waste of cash because from what I hear the 260 heads are not that great and do not flow freely...?

    Thanks,

Back in the day(67-68-69) i had a 63 S-22 comet H.T. with a factory 260 and a 4 speed,2-v carb. It held the ntl. record in "p" stock for rears. I swaped the 260 & trans into a 62 sedan delivery and it ran like a bat out of hell. Found out later, the prev owner-builder had snuk in a roller cam in the little 260 an never got caught at the drag strip while being protested.
