I've threatened it before, but now I've got it locked in and it's time to pick a date for the first (hopefully of many) Hot rod events at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Ca. Fort Mac is a coastal artillery fort that sits high on a hill overlooking the pacific ocean it served as the ports defense fort for 100 years. Now it's a museum with Guns, military vehicles, a great view and some really cool buildings. I'd like to have a show during late summer when it's HOT. There's nothing like a beach party, or parking your ride next to a tank, so what's cooler than doing them together? Due to limited space I have to keep it down to about 100 cars. I don't want to charge money but I want it to raise some money for the Fort, If it works we can do reliability, hound and hare, poker runs, shows cruises... You name it. SO here's what I need from you...Other than a desire to show up. Tell me what can we do to make this show unique for hot rodders? What would you guys like to see? I'll be emphasising the WWII aspect I really want to celebrate So. Cal history coming together and each car should reflect some real traditionalism, So sorry, no mega rats and no zz top cars. The cars will be in a killer setting with some other "killer" vintage equipment and everyone who enters will get to tour the museum at their leisure, I also don't think I'll have a band If I do It won't be a rockabilly band. Then What to do about food and prizes???? Here's some pics of the place!, and the wesite to the museum and some of the other events. www.ftmac.org www.theairraid.com
I lived around the corner from there for many years. In summer it was always 10-15 degrees cooler than downtown L.A.
Having a meeting on Wednesday to set the date...also talked to a group about doing a vintage aircraft flyover.
I'll guess I'll just have to hammer out the details myself, and make a flyer. Start inviting and see what happens.
