"The railcar carrier "Milwaukee" sank in Lake Michigan in 1927 carrying some box cars" That is the one the Nash's are on ,this is a true story not some internet urban legand. The water at the bottom of the lake is fresh and cold. They showed the cars through a hole in the top of the car. Looked to be in VERY good cond. .....how long it would stay like that after you got it up?
Speaking of urban legend-type finds, don't forget Larry Fisette's 21 semi trailers of car parts...can you say 'gold mine'? http://oldcarsweekly.com/Default.aspx?tabid=525&articleid=1528&articlemid=1524#1524Articles
I'm goin' to Spokane tomorrow with truck and trailer and getting my '32 sedan, I will see this crap for myself and see whats up. Laaaater! What up, Ted.
I remember the Lotus ebay auction, it was pretty recent. Too freaking funny! It was in the celeb news for a bit too, I think.
in russia they are still pulling out wwii tanks out of the oxygen rich mud, that these things sunk in, they hosed one out and it started! very well preserved.
There may be some truth to this. In 1975 I was scuba diving in a lake in Georgia called Clark Hill Resovoir near Augusta. We used to dive under the docks around the lake on weekdays looking for fishing equipment and anything else of interest. One day we did our dock routine and started to make our way back to the boat launch. We were in about 35' of water when we happened upon an old coupe. It was very dark and visibility was about two feet. As we encircled the car with flashlights, I could imagine skeletons or something topping up and scarying the crap out of us. Anyway, upon further inspection, the car had a bunch of small pine trees in it, kinda like christmas trees. Didn't see any bones and we never could tell what make and model it was...just to dark. The car was solid and we thought about pulling it out since it was at the end of the boat ramp but, we never did. So...you never know..please keep us posted on what happens...and if we never hear from you again, we'll know you hit the mother lode! Edit: If anyone in Georgia is interested in trying to relocate this car PM me and I'll go back thru my dive records a see if I can find the name of the marina. That was thirty years ago...but you never know!
Back in the mid-80s when I lived in Miami, a friend of mine used to swear there was a semi-tractor trailer load of 427 Ford engines in the lakes behind the Crane Cams building (back when they were in Hallandale, FL). Swore it was one of those, 'Ford getting out of racing, dumping their stuff, writing it off on insurance' scams. I would have dove it - most of those man-made lakes are only about 30'-60' deep & the one or two behind Crane Cams wasn't that big. I figure if there really was 427 stuff down there, it'd have been pulled up by now...he was making claims of crate cammers & such. Heard other rumors of stuff in lakes, oceans, canals, etc. As mentioned above, I think it's just a bit of romanticized longing for a quick & easy find...
I have, in front of me, an ad for a 1968 GTO, original, # match. losing storage 10-1, $2000. Yes, I missed it. Yes, it was real. Also kept an ad from the Dallas Morrning News for a while...63 Corvette split window, knock off wheels, $500. I called. The old man said I was caller 366!! It sold at 6:30am that morning. Dave
There used to be 2 Tri-Motors flew out of Mcarren on sight seeing tours in the 80s & 90s . both got pretty well destroyed by a BIG wind that rolled them up in a ball while parked. I think one was repaired --no idea where it is now , not flying here anymore.
There is a trimotor here that flew tours daily (at least on weekends) up until a couple years ago, My inlaws live on a lake not far from the airport and a couple times a day you would see that thing fly low across the lake as it approached. Has the coolest sound, and flies so slow it looks like it should fall out of the sky! for those interested, its housed here: www.airzoo.com A really cool place to check out if youre ever in or near Kalamazoo, MI
A couple of years ago Humboltcat gave me a call about a truck he knew I would want. A $400 34 ford. He drove out to get it for me since he was closer, but missed by an hour, but did see it getting loaded up.
I have heard the train wreck full of cars in Rock lake story since I was a kid , funny thing is the model of cars change with the story teller, model Ts , As and now 32s. That said I still look for the gleam of underwater chrome everytime I fish that side iof the lake here hoping there is something down there. I would love to be there if they pull anything out. Rock Lake is full of stories: monsters, deaths, variety of sunken objects, rattle snakes those stories are true so be prepared if you go, big fish stories ect. National Geographic did a article on the lake in the 70s topo map(is that right term when talking underwater?) the whole deal but they could never set the depth in a few areas soft bottom and not enough cable it is very deep in spots. Anyway post if anybody actually is going to dive, I'll come out and watch and help keep the snakes away. Chris Roberts
i heard a story about a 32 off a cliff in sonora ca .thought it wasent true .a friend of mine plled it up the cliff with a wench and now its his parts car .sometimes there true and you just gota look
There are two model A's buried at my Grandfathers old Ranch in Tuscumbia, MO if anyone wants to dig them up. Of course they were pushed into the creek bank will a Bull dozer in '79. Just a few patch panels and hammer/dolly out the rest. Supposed to be buried Jesse James treasure also on the property too. I love these folk tales.
Yea, here there is a tale that some pirate long ago sailed into the bay, took a small boat loaded with gold and followed a river up a ways and hid it. I was fooling around with a metal detector one day and the old guy living across from our property got all excited, thought I had got a lead on it I guess.
That Lake Murray B25 story was filmed and shown on the History or Discovery channel. Pretty cool. The Glacier Girl P-38 that they dug out of solid ice is down at the Bell County Airport in sothern KY. I really need to get down there one day. They usually fly it in the fall.
i found somethin in our toilet that looked car like..kinda rusty lookin....dont think ill fish it out anytime soon!!!
I don't know about the Fords, but I heard that there was a mint condition Plymouth buried in a hole in Tulsa. Rich
