and actually, even though this specific car/truck/doodlebug is far away from willington, there is a model a sitting in the woods around willington that no one rescued. it is now turned back to dirt. :D

That would make a great start to just about anything you can think of. I am seeing the makings of a boat tail speedster out of it.

Respect level went way up, because you took the time to research it properly with permission. Too many people jumping over fences taking pictures with their phones. Respect will take you places. Impulsive rudeness, will usually ruin it for everyone. Out here we call them buckrakes, usually steering was flipped around, and the rear axle is flipped on the mounts. Used for pushing hay through the fields.

Youd be surprised how many people are willing to let you look at stuff if you ask nicely. no need to get ****py cell phone picks to slur all over the internet. I'd much rather get permission and get to walk right up to it and witness it myself. Maybe its just because im a chick but my boyfriend is always with me and he will march right up and ask too. The lady up the road from me didnt even hesitate when we mentioned checking out the old car in her field. she just warned us of the *****ers :).

To those of you who sneak onto land..even if there are no houses around...ASK the owner first. it doesnt take much to just knock on some doors and find out who owns it. Respect their property. you wouldnt want other idiots climbing your fences to get up close at your cars now would you? Thats whow stuff started disappearing off these cars. the straight-eight owned by my neighbor has had rocks thrown through all 4 windows. its disgusting.

So let me ask you are you going to try and rescue this? It would be cool to see it brought back to something even if you base it from what is there. I am sure this is plenty of it left to begin creating something from......lol......or is it more yard art for the people who own it ? Either way it is cool to see it and that you took the time to both post it here and ask for permission.

oh trust me, rusted to hell or not they will buy a 32 and rebuild it section by section. at least i know i would! as far as the wheels go, they can be fixed by taking the rivets out, and welding on new hoops! so go get the stuff!:D

  8. :):):):):)next time you get to a big city book store or if ya check online look for these books
    encyclopedia of american cars 1900-1990
car spotters guides by Tad Burnet (out of print but they can be found )

carry these books in your truck while out chasing strays or whatever it is you farm girls do on the backroads:rolleyes:
so a quick I.D. can be done

ANY ACTUAL 1932 FORD STUFF THAT YOU TALK ABOUT AND NOT POST PIC'S OF WILL REINSTATE THE B/S FACTOR ..go take some pics and offer to buy same unit ....

then drag these finds home sounds like ya have room for the orphans

if you have the pasture room then a few sheep will help keep the weeds down .. not goats asthey will wreck the roofs and hoods and eat the wires

I ave chased many doodle bugs running and left for dead .. they all have potential to become hotrods .. and most were a lobuck version of a tractor /tug or as a servicable
work horse during the WW2 era so rationed gas was availible for them

good luck and lighten up a little :D

I haven't heard from the guy who owns it in PA yet. If i get a price i might rescue it but not for myself. its beyond too much work and $$ for me and i wouldnt even know where to begin with it. I could only imagine what the rest of the pieces would cost me.

If anyone else would like it; let me know and i might be able to get my hands on it if i ever hear from the owner.

Its not yard art for them...it was left in the woods :)

  12. Young lady I wish you all the luck in the world. I haven't seen it but in my mind that is quite a find.

    Good for you.

Well I guess I should have read the entire thread before i posted. But good for you anyway you found something and followed through.

If its an consolation I was p***ing what appeared to be a model A cowl and ch***is @ about 70 MPH for a month or so last year. The raven and I finally went back and looked it over up close and it turned out to be a dodge that someone had turned into a farm implement. Oh well those are the kicks I guess ya win a few and you loose a lot.

The find was everything I thought it was in your original thread, From a distance the grill looked like a 33-34,looked to be a roadster. I'm a old dude from the mid-west,had I seen what you had ,I would have gotten excited too. You did it right by asking premission, some meat heads wouldn't have, they are the ones that have screwed it up for the rest of us. Of course they have ALL the cool cars. Hang in there brown eyes. I guess 33/34 Mopars were popular around there.. There is the remains of a 33/4 4dr sedan near the top of Willington Hill on my cousins property. No mechanicals or nose and laying on it's side.

Also 2 more 33/4 Dodge 4dr sedans close to Tolland center. In the late 60s we could see one of them backed up to a distant stone wall. We knocked on the door, but the old guy would not answer, but peeked out the window :) We parked up the road months later and cut through the woods to see another one in the lower field. Too far gone.

He also had a 50 Ford 2dr sedan that rumor said was "low miles" sticking half out of a milk shed. we had no inerest in a shoebox then.(late 60s) He p***ed away years ago and his heirs kept the land but sold the 1700 colonial timber frame of the house and barns. The 50 was gone. Get this; last year I went to fix a garage door for the 60 yr old neice nearby, and she asked me if I "wanted to see her uncles old Ford" It was driven, decades ago, into a homemade open sided lean-to built onto the back of her garage. It took 10 minutes to free up the door handle ****on so we could see the miles. She thought 38K, but it was 23,700. Her uncle bought it new. It is totally rotted now.

She did let me look at the 33/4 Dodges up close. They are toast, no good parts at all. Also a 35 Ford 2dr sedan shell, and a 35/6 Ford 1.5 ton...all are junk. ..and, she won't part with anything:rolleyes:

I honestly have not seen a pre-WW2 field or woods find car that was restorable, since maybe 1960. Like you said, it's not a good climate for cars outside.

Good for you spotting it and following up on it the correct way.

    Keep looking.

Sometimes you'll find something worth building.

My coupe came from parts in an old pasture in Connecticut....

  19. Very cool. I took the long way home today down the back roads, it is warm-ish here and sunny today (maybe 30ish degrees) And people are starting to open their barns and garages and do cleaning... My eyes are peeled, as always, but a little EXTRA peeled lately! Always fun finding old cars, even if they are wasted.....

the guy from PA who owned this old doodlebug never called us so it will continue to sit there and rot into the earth. the only cari could probably get is my neighbors car whish is sunken into the earth. you can see that on my "weekend adventure" thread.

Sadly, anything left to sit for years in new england will rot away...even if it's been stored inside. the humidity and crazy weather seasons here doesnt trea things well

:)I am new and really respect what you are doing here it is so hard to find a site with pepole that really care. I have inherited two grills and two side panels that I think are 34 ford. I would like to sell them to someone that could ues them for a restoration. Is there a way I could post photos of them so you can tell me what I have?
