I found a 1963 401 Buick Nailhead an old friend of mine has had stored in a barn under a tarp. He said come and get it if you want it. It was pulled from a running car with about 70.000 miles and he has never had a use for it. Its an automatic but I dont know if its a 2v or a 4v Whats a good complete engine and trans worth now days? IM probably going to store it away for a future use. Many thanks to any positive feedback....
Well, I just bought a 1965 401 with the 400 Tranny for $600.00 from a friend. He claims it was running when it was pulled, and I have no reason to doubt him. The car was from Iowa and rusted out, so the drivetrain was saved. I am a newbie to Buicks as well, here is the link I posted that received good responses from our Nailhead collective. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201152 Free is good. Go get it.
All I saw of it was the valve covers. Its not going anywhere. Its safe and sound in a dry barn. I just have to make room and dig it out and haul it home. Thanks for the replies. I have no idea if all 401 were 4V's or not.
There was a 2 barrel version of every nailhead except the 425. All 425's were either 4 barrel or dual 4 barrel. The 2 barrel 401's were available in 62, 63, and 64 (I think). They made either 265 hp / 412 ft lbs of torque, or 280 hp / 424 ft lbs of torque.
