Well my car hunter.. <----Her! Just found another one.. Its a Hillman and were trying to figure out what Year and Model..and what it might be worth? can you tell us something about them This kids got an eye for the old cars its even got suicide doors
That is a trick little car and a LHD export model too! I think you need to own and drive it and love it.
Hey, Looks like a Hillman Minx of about 1948. A side valve 1,184 cc that developed 36 h.p.. Unit body construction means watch out for terminal rust damage. The drop head coupes (DHC) are the coolist of that era Hillmans, but demand in this country isn't big, so don't pay big money for a car you're only sorta excited about! Swankey Devils C.C. I would only get it if it fell into my lap..and I probably wouldnt run any of the original drive train or running gear..unless it was reliable My daughter thought it was a cool little convertable I like the steering wheel..I would get it just for that if the price was right
My dad has a friend that claims to have owned more Hillmans than anyone else in the US. Of course he's probably full of crap but he's definitely had a fair share of them. Neat little car. Would make a cute car for your daughter.
i think those are her plans....shes got a while until the driving thing starts shes probably thinking...."that will be enough time for dad to build it for me" Hey Girl!..yer killin me..ive got enough shit to build although the fact that they probably couldnt do over 70 is apealing
So the littl banger motor is what 14 inches long????? I had a buddy in high shool who had a Super Minx 59/60, it had a little OHV 4 thst was pretty peppy.
Cool find! Hillman > Sunbeam > Alpine + Ford = Tiger! Firewall appears to be gone anyway from the look of it. I think it needs a 289" Ford in there!
its just sitting out there in the weather ..like it got kicked out of someones garage..or estate after it was taken over or the owner died, Its not even in front of a house or barn or nothing ..open gravel lot dont even know how to find the owners, or if they exist.
oh that picture of that engine was put up by someone else..I have no idea whats under the hood of this one
that would be cool..thanks for the ideas.. If I can locate the owner and get it reasonably I will stash it away..its not that big
I have some old rally videos with some guys just gettin it in those things!! Cool ass little cars. Nothing like youtube for old rally vids....hours of good stuff. Man, I would scoop that up if I were you, and you had the resources. Throw some badass old rally lights on the bumper and go rally crossing! Cheers and beers Hodge
Those lil Brit cars are so damn cool. Great find if you buy it. Not everyone's gonna have one of those. I like the 289 idea. There's so many great smaller engines you could put in it. Good luck what ever you do.
it's a Hillman Minx Phase 1 Coupe Deville. 1947. Some of the Soft tops are actually war time cars and if it is ,there would be a buyer in the Uk for it and it's also a very rare car. Hillman Minxs fetch biggish money there. This is a Prewar Hillman Minx 'magnificent'. That is the name given to them by the makers,Rootes Group.
Yeah Its cool..Not my thing really , but she likes it.. With the way it sits what would you thing is a fair asking price? Like ..1. if it runs and drives---=$..? or 2. if its dead and engine froze up---= $..? 3. no engine and found to be crusty under it all---= $..?
The fire wall rot you see is typical as that served as the location for the battery. So that area alway had accelerated corrosion from the gasses, spills and boilover. With the economy the way it is...500 to 1500 ought to do it, bit more if it runs and drives. Probably not much support for body stuff so make sure its as solid as the pictures look. here is a 3 year old value scale from England. http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/728/ remember pounds are 2.5 $$$. Here is one all gussied up. with the top folded half way back. Actually pretty sharp. Like the little side cowl vents.
wow that looks neat..If I could get it cheap..I will. My daughter has been at me to build her a Go-Cart.. this wouldnt be that much bigger...and i bet she would love to tinker with it up till her drivers test.. funny but it kinda fits her personality.. shes already picked out a color scheme.. Salmon and DarkGrey matalic fenders..humm?..maybe.. so far finding the owner has been the hard part
I would have guessed Humber, the distinctive front was held over on that model for a longer time (methinks)
Looks like the Sunbeams my friend had in high school. He had 3 53 Alpine roadsters, and a 53 Sunbeam Talbot 90 saloon, with a sunroof. Other than the dumb 4 speed on the tree, with a very weak 1st gear, the cars ran pretty good.
I believe Humber, Hillman, Sunbeam, Singer and Talbot were all under the same umbrella. (Rootes Group?) along with Commer and Karrier lorries. The one in this thread was said to be partially designed by Raymond Lowey. Roods group became part oc Chrysler Europe back when Chrysler was an actual car making company.
Hey, The Humber and Hillman marques were both produced by the Rootes Group in the UK, and thus shared the same designers. As automotive designers in North America wore out their original ideas, or became a pita to management, they were ofter transfered to Europe to begin anew. The fact that the Humper Super Snipe MkI of this era, and this Hillman and the models that would follow into the 50s ,all had a kind of American vibe wasn't just a case of random chance. I beleve that most of Rootes design staff was ex GM design. The '49 Hillmans' looked like shrunkin' Mopars! Swankey Devils C.C. " Spending A Nation Into Generational Debt Is Not An Act Of Compassion!"
