I'm jazzed. Iv'e gotten flathead fever nowday, currently have 6 of the darn things on the shop floor plus misc axles, frames and trannys so I've been looking for a suitable steel ford body. Of course I want a roadster and I'm cheap, not a good mix! Iv'e been looking at a 27 coupe (dare I say it) rat rod for sale just to use the body but preety rough and kindy pricey for whats there. Yesterday as I was scanning the local classifieds and there was an ad for a 'clearance sale" listing a bunch of so-so cars, in the middle of the listing was "27 steel Ford". Finally got ahold of the guy, seems he must be in some finacial distress . Turns out to be a fairly straight, rust free roadster sitting on a new fabbed chassis, Speedway tube ft end, Curry 9" out back and new wheels and tires! I not going to say what I paid for it (you guys whould hate me) but it would of been a fair price for the body alone! I dought I'll use any of the chassis but I already have a couple offers to buy it. I guess the upside to this economic condition is there are some buys out there, sure glad I didn't buy the coupe yet, I wouldn't be able swing both!
That's the plan, I want to use as much Henry as I can, I already had a nice A frame, 38 drivetrain and v8 60 ft axle. All I needed was the body!
I agree. Actually it would need the back shortened and the body moved up, whoever started building this added a 12" extention on the back of the frame and moved the body and rear axle back. Not sure of why they would do this, going for a rail job look? I'm glad they never finished, it has the worst excuse for ladder bars I've ever seen, homemade, very light duty (made frome 1/2" x 1" bar strap) and clamped to the housing! Nothing to keep the rear from rotating in the clamps. Good part, take off 6 bolts and they're gone, no torching needed!
