so i stumbled upon a black 1964 pontiac parisienne coupe(canadian only model). got it from the orginal owner, interior is red and pretty decent, sat in a shed for 17 years. fired first shot and run slike a top now, its a 283 chev(but it says pontiac) w/ 3spd. the car is essentially an impala frame and motor with a american catalina body on it but no chrome moulding, just stainless lower body trim, rear quarters have a large parisienne down the 1/4 that is literally 2 feet long and only avail motors were chevy's. they were built on the impala assembly line in oshawa and yanked off before body met chassis. at any rate its an awesome car and im lookin into goin the bellflower route with it but im having trouble finding any custom pontiac's from the early 60's. i know id like to swap the front end for a '62 catalina and i am lookin for a 4 door catalina rear bumper with no reverse lamps. but other than that...im juss spinnin my tires. any suggestions?
The front end off an American Pontiac WILL NOT fit on a Canadian car, to the best of my knowledge. The undercarriages are nowhere near similar and the mounting points for the rad and bumpers are completely different. There are also different body lines between a 64 and a 62 - without lots of extensive bodywork it would not work. The rear bumper might fit but the taillights are also way different. Keep the 64 the way it is - they are classy looking cars that only need a mild shave and a moderate lowering - 69 Impala coils front and rear will drop it 2"+. If you really want a 62 then sell the 64 and go find one. I personally think the 62 is a nicer looking car. I used to own a 64 Laurentian with a 283 PG, and a 62 Strato Chief with a 261 3 speed. The 62 was a low mileage little old lady car that I regret selling to this day. Canadian built Pontiacs are unique and, and I believe, undervalued as custom material because of their Chevy underpinnings. I still have a couple 56 Pontiacs, one being a sedan delivery - a Canadian only built car. One neat thing, at least out here on the prairies is that there were lots of them that had 261 sixes in them - a lot more powerful engine than a 235. Aubrey Bruneau Performance in Alberta has a neat website about 61-4 Canadian Pontiacs, and buys and sells cars and parts. He has a couple really rare Pontiacs, including a 409/425 4 speed Parisienne wagon. Good luck with the car!!
Ive been in contact with bruneau performance and theyre an awesome help. persoanlly i am kinda leaning toward keeping it and making it a pretty unique custom because of its chevy/pontiac shared heritage, but at teh same tim ei may wait till after syracuse since more than a few people are tellin me that the canadian parisiennes can sometimes fetch some good money which if this is the case ill take that Ca$h and find a 62 canadian car or a 62 catalina. eitehr way...it starts here
I agree. Its nice enough to leave it as it is right now, and just have some fun with it. Drive it for awhile and see if it grows on you before you decide to get serious and cut it up.
If your serious about wanting a 62, my dad happens to be selling a 62 Laurentain here in N.E. Ohio. It's a super straight black car with red and white tuck and roll interior and a louvered hood. The original 283 or 327 has been replaced somewhere along the line with a 350. I'm not sure what he is asking but I can find out if your interested.
as soon as i get some chance to get better day pics ill post them up. for now im looking at lowering it a few inches, thrwoin a set of black 14x7" steelies with 204/70/14 whitewalls and chrome lugs, im leanin toward bellflowers out teh rear. already have the car up on stands as we speak so i can get the mufflers off and the resonators on in their place. Ill most likely bag it at some point if i elect to keep it since everything i ever owned was bagged.
Mark that car is going to be a wicked ride. My friend Carman from the Poorboys (I'm pretty sure you might know him) came up to me last night and said "Fuck i just saw this black 64 rippin' down Merivale road sounded killer!" I'm like ha ha thats Mark. Also, yesterday i saw a black 2 door post 65 Ponch around there aswell- i thought it was you at first but it was some other guy. i've never seen the car before.
