Yep. Meter at 200, but still process at 400. Sounds crazy, but try it.

Nice photos with two subjects dear to my heart!

I've done this with 16mm color movie film -- ten plus years in the can, some of it looked great, but the high speed stock didn't hold up. The best part was the surprises when watching it years later, wondering what was on there.

My dad left behind some fantastic Air Force photos from the 1950's on Kodachrome slides that time has barely touched. Meanwhile my super 8mm movies from the 1980s show some fading.

Yeah, from an archival standpoint, digital can be a bit scary. I've lost a few images and movie files to corrupt storage cards. These days I back up my digital pics in triplicate onto three different model hard drives, even some onto DVDs. Meanwhile I simply store my old negatives in acid-free sleeves.

I remember when digital was just getting going. I was a staff investigative/technical photographer/videographer for a law firm. The boss wanted to know how safe digital images were -- he didn't want evidence photos becoming easily erased near, say, a magnetic field he worried.

First, I reminded him that I could instantly erase a film roll of critical photos by opening the camera in daylight -- sometimes easily accomplished by dropping a camera. Digital had us beat here. Second, I tried to degauss a digital camera memory card on an industrial degausser we had (used for blanking/recycling VHS tapes). It had zero impact on the images stored on the memory card! Tough stuff, and this was long ago!

I found an old box of slides in a garage someone was tearing down. To my surprise I found this one of this old hotrod, slide was dated August 63.

  8. That '50's Rambler obviously wasn't from the '37 roll. Sorry about that. Let me make it up to you....

Any interest in working out a deal to turn the digital file for the engine nacelle with the big yellow 3 on it into poster? I just like the shot, love the colors. Since its your photograph I am willing to pay for the use of the digital file for this purpose. I know it sounds weird and off-topic but not sure how else to go about this...

    Ryan,
Just wondering if you scan your negatives and print digital, or scan your newly developed prints afterwards in order to post them? I've got about a zillion old negs I'd like to get saved / printed... my task looks like a lot of digital scanning to get it done reasonably fast. I sold my darkroom years ago. Can't see starting all that over now. Gary

  11. Good to see people still using film! I donated all my 35mm stuff to a youngster that was interested in photography. I have hundreds of 35mm slides. I keep saying I am going to go through them. Maybe this winter! I do not have the patience anymore so my little digital Cannon is good for this old man. I do miss my old gear once in awhile. Again nice find!

Funny, I recently had to explain film cameras to my teenage kids.
