Is the steel object magnetic? IF so it might be a slip on that was sold to slip on top of the oilpan bolt to trap metal particles. If the penny is magnetic THEN you got something!
I'm leaning more towards the valve lash tip. Thanks again and I will let you guys know tonight when i get back to it
Lash cap wouldn't be drilled straight through, does kind of look like a timing case cover alignment bushing
i found a half dollar in the pan of the straight six in my dodge, no way it could have gotten there unless someone dropped it at some point in the past
If the lash loosens up they will hammer all the way through and fall off, Just my thought but it looks a little small for a TC dowel, but Ive been wrong before, it doesn't scare me any more LOL
Looks more like a 0 degree timing gear bushing. Remember it does not have to belong to the car. Lots of strange things have been found in engines.
In the old days they used to put copper in the oil instead of zinic don't worry about it. Didn't Mercury make Lincolns?
you should have used your middle finger for a size reference. you know, to get a head start on all the smart asses!
Actually, starting in 1987, the ZINC content in pennies was increased, due to the cost of copper and to make pennies more durable. ZINC content pennies will cause liver problems in pets and children who swallow them by accident. Also, maybe someone was trying to get better "ZINC protection" for their oil by tossing a penny in (NOT, just a joke!!!). What the "sleeve" is, I have no idea. Now, when I bought my rear motored Super Comp Dragster in 85, while tearing the engine down, I found a DENTAL DAM in the oil pan. How and why it got there is anyones guess. But, the dental dam kind of goes along with a previous poster who found a tooth in his pan. Funny how a thread can get side tracked. Butch/56sedandelivery. I looked through my Chilton's and Motor's Manuals and did'nt find anything that looked like your "sleeve".
