Incredible story and find. That Foyt engine is a gem. I know it's a shame to break up the collection, but they're still all in good hands. Besides, you rescued that Foyt motor from a trailer and you can put it back where it belongs; in a race car kicking some serious ass. WELL DONE!

Sure hope we get to hear that Coyote(silent E!) when she fires up. You guys and gals in Michigan need to chase down Jack Roush's collection of cool powerplants and give a report!

    Update-

The stamped numbers prove that the Coyote engine is Foyts 1967 Indy 500 winning motor.
However, he won on a naturally aspirated setup. Sometime after that race the engine got the turbo setup. Based on the bore and stroke we dont think it was ever ran as a turbo motor, that maybe the turbo exhaust and blower were mounted up for display only.

Due to the historic value of the motor we contacted The Indy Museum who has AJ's '67 car about selling it to them or exchanging for a non-historic Coyote block. Unfortunately at the current time they are unable to do a deal.

So it looks like AJ's '67 Indy 500 winning engine will being going on to hopefully set a record or two on the salt!!!!!!!

About time to bump this 2 year old thread.

Plan is to give AJ's motor some more history, like Salt record history!!!

I'll be on the salt in a month for Speedweek going after a record.
Let me tell ya how sweet 1200hp on methanol sounds! :D Wicked f-ing loud!!!

We've ran the car the past two weekends just shaking out bugs and what not. Still have to tidy up a lot of small details, like adding a ton of weight!!!

    But a teaser before paint.....

anyone in Southeast Texas (houston area) have a good source for Methanol?

I've found it all over the midwest for $2.35/gal in 55 gal drums. In houston everyone wants $6-8/gallon! What gives?

haha, yeah that stuff was pretty bad!!!

It took a long time coming. We've had the chassis since mid-last fall. And just slowly been chipping away at getting everything together.

Now its kinda down to the wire I suppose, but we'll be on the salt, no doubt. I can hardly wait. Shoot I can hardly wait for unvieling pics on here. ;)

dropped everything off at the painter tonight. Short notice, short order, he's knocking it out!!!

Going to be Triple Nickel heavy red metalflake and lots of polished aluminum!!!

Had a bit of a problem last week. Got the thing weighed.....ummm we are WAY to F-ing light!

Solution, order about a ton of reclaimed steel shotgun shot. Filling the lower rails, and a handful of containers on the car to weigh it down, and make it stick to the earth. So Saturday I built container after container to hold lead shot. Finished up the tonnue(sp?) cover blisters.

Sunday I got the intake mounted, exhaust built and mounted, and wastegate exhaust built, did a ton of Dzus's. Worked on the 'chutes, worked on the fin, and generally got the body and panels ready for paint.

Damn I'm running out of time!!!
