Found some old speed stuff in a neighbors garage.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by theloosecannon707, Mar 23, 2010.

  1. So today i was going over to a guys house in town whos always giving me old wheels and stuff. This time he invited me into his little storage shed and it was kinda like the mother load for this guy of all his cool stuff he had collected. I snapped a few photos of the intake manifolds... he said he would consider given me some of his stuff, if i really wanted it... some of them i kenw like Navarro and Edmunds, and Thickston, but some i hadent heard of, what do you guys think?

Shanafelt is one of the rarer intakes. I've never actually seen one on a running car before.

Don't take any of it - that stuff deserves to just sit there on the shelf until the heirs figure out what scrap aluminum is worth and have it melted down.

OF COURSE you accept whatever he's willing to give you. Hint...so St Peter doesn't have too much fun with you later on - whatever you sell, try to give the guy a portion of the proceeds. He'll appreciate it, and you'll feel a lot better. Besides, it's the right thing to do. Write it all down...what you kept, what you traded, what you sold - and go back to the guy, thank him for putting some of that prime stuff back in the hands of the guys that will love it, caress it, and use it for its intended purpose.

after the deal is done, tell US (the HAMB) what the total inventory is/was.

    tnx

If there's anything I've learned, it would be grab the ones you never heard of. That way when you learn how rare it was 10 years down the road, you have no regrets. Plus, obey all the previously posted advice regarding karma.

Does anybody ever understand holeshots replies or is it just me? WTF. Anyhow, that is a pretty amazing stash your friend has. I'd do my best to try and get him to give you a package price for it all. I'd hate to let any of it just get away....

The Shanafelt was made in Portland Ore. in the late 40's.The Thickstun shown is a pre ww2 casting & you don't see to many of the low riser type that that one is.

Very cool find, keep in touch with him, you never know what else he might have around. Had a friend of mine 30 years ago that had a towing business and was at his house one day with my 53 Ford. He wanted to look at the flathead that had 2X2's on it. He says wait a minute, comes back with a Edelbrock 3X2's with carbs/progressive linkage he got off on on of his junked tow's. I got it for $75.00 and worked great. He kept me in mine for other things later on too that he came accross.

Be cool about the purchases you make but cut the guy in money wise. Could he be a new friend who'd like to help in your build? Is he looking for a gearhead to share the experince with? He's got the part's for a reason, been there, done that come's to mind, kepp him in the loop. Betcha he has stories and experince to help you and with which a friendship can grow.

Looks like you've got lots of new friends as close or closer than I am, so I won't say something like "hey, I can be there in a couple hours".

All I ever find in anyone else's garage is driver Toyotas, broken ladders, and tile saws too small to be useful.

Well, not entirely true, I had a shot at an Opel Manta one time that I probably should have taken. There's still this Solstice GXP powertrain on eBay that'd do very nicely in an old Manta or Vega, the LNF turbomotor's a work of art...but that's not HAMBable, so I'll leave it at that.

How wide an axle would you end up with if you put a ten-inch tire under a Nash Metropolitan?
