Great follow-up!

 

It is amazing it survived, but don’t forget for many years it was just an old (out of date) race car.

Until recently old race cars were just that old racecars. Only a select few (like myself) viewed them as historical artifacts.
As technology advanced, once a car had outlived its usefulness (winning ways) it was sold off and raced in lower classes until it was put out to pasture.

Many Indy Roadster ended up being raced as Super Modifieds...


and some rear engine cars even ended up on dirt!

 

Rolla Vollstedt’s #16 Indy car from 1965, became a rear engine Supermodified. With a young Tom Sneva behind the wheel who won The Copper World, launching a great Indy career.

 

Joe needs to take it to Spaldings house in Monrovia where the magazine feature was done. Sit the body in the driveway in front of the same garage door. Would be cool
