Steelies? Just as long as they are either 16"ers with Coker F-Stones or F-100 centers with Buick outers in the rear and reversed in the front, chromed, with WWW's you'll have a winner... Ditch the SBF... find a Y-block... clean and preserve it... find a replacement door if you can... now, before they get expensive (haha)... We look forward to the back-dates... just make sure they are "period" and not "Rat Rod'ish"... BTW, I'm happy for you... anyone who drags an old hot rod out, and gets it on the road is COOL by me. Sam.
I NEVER get sick of hearing these stories. They give us all hope and something to dream about. The eternal quest for the barn-find....... I found a 36 5window, but never give up that there is plenty more treasure to be found.....arrrrr! JOYO...
Sounds like a plan to me. I don't know if I would have posted pictures before changing wheels tho Very east coast, I like it.
Like he said exactly. It looks like it couldn't have found a better home, well unless it was here or at Sams .....Shiny
Thanks for the photo work 4t!!!! My wife flipped out when I showed her your handy work. For those who asked, I live near Parkersburg, WV. DefianceB (my buddy Clay) has a 34 Ford 5 window he recently drug home that's also another old rod from the 60's. It's been altered through the years but never finished enough to drive. It also sit outside in the weather for decades and nature has taken a toll, but it's still very restorable. There must have been a 100 people try to buy that car through the years but the kat wouldn't come off of it. Clay happened to catch him at the right moment and bought it. Needless to say, all of us local rodders were shocked. I'll try to post some pics of it too...with Clay's permission. Clay and I feel very fortunate to have hese cars as most were used up on the dirt tracks in this area eons ago or the Mid-Ohio Valley road salt, rain and winters did their dastardly deed. Thanks to Deuce Roadster and graverobber63 posting the pics on the HAMB board from the photobucket.
On a another good note, my Dad finally bought his dream car yesterday; a stock 30 Model A coupe. Dad's health is not good with lung and heart problems that's beyond repair. He's come to the conclusion he may not be with us long and decided to look into getting himself a Model A. We went and looked at one yesterday and it was a nice one. He paid the guy for it and we're gonna go bring er' home today. He was all revved up over my find and I'm equally as excited over his, even though it is a stocker. I wish you could have seen the goose bumps break out on him when he heard the old car run! You would think he was a kid again! I know most of us are into rods and customs, and Dad likes those too. Even though it's a stocker and will stay that way, I thought I'd share the excitement and dream come true.
I like the overall look of that car. It's got a very "stock car/ Modified" look to it. I think I'd replace the wheels with some steel racing wheels like the ones currently used on latemodel oval track cars, mount the radiator, replace the Ford engine with a "REAL" one (Small Block Chevy ) and tear up the roads. The story is true I did drink to many buds that night but, I got what was important. Always follow up on your leads. I'll trade you some old Iraqi money for her!
Im bumpin this old girl to the top.... Heard there may have been some progress? dont want to step on toes or nothing.... But re-reading this post made my morning.... "I FUCKING LOVE THIS 3w"....survivors rule
Been wondering where all those cars that I used to see at runs and shows, in the 70s and 80s, ended up. How many more "retired" rods and customs are out there, hidden away? At least we know one of them ended up in good hands...congrats.
Awesome find, was the 33 -34 5 window in front of his gargae two or is that the one your buddy finally scored?
Wow finds like that are getting scarce. There can't be to many like that sitting but I have never been lucky like that. I still keep looking though. Looks like it has a 289/302 motor so it has the good stuff to work with. Good luck on the resto.
Posts like this keep most of us alert, listening for leads on some old car. Sure would be great to score something like this.. Hope you and your Pop enjoy yer new rides!!!
A little update on the 3w coupe. The frame is now boxed, all holes filled(there were lots of holes from this and that being mounted and de-mounted through the years), and a 9" Ford rearend mounted and x-member installed. Now that I'm retired the purse strings have been tightened, so that makes progress even slower. My buddies have been a HUGE help in getting some progress done. I've got the Model A running again so I have a driver while the Deuce is being built. I'll take a few pics soon for all to see. I'm sure I'll catch hell from the HAMB nazi's for putting a SBC in it, but that's what I can afford right now. I do have a Merc flattie stored in the barn that I'd like to use when I have the time and money to go through it. Got a long way to go, but it's said you eat an elephant one bite at a time. I'm rather torn on what to do with the grill shell. I don't really care for the molded on headlights, but it does have the look from back in the day. Any suggestions?
I'd suggest leaving it alone...... Fight the desire to change things.... When I purchased "HOYS HAULER"....I'll admit, like others before me, the desire to change it and make it unique to my tastes was there. BUT...I didnt...WHY?...HISTORY man, PRESERVATION!!!!
