Okay, so I always go for a bike ride in the mornings and I've often found neat old cars in my area. But for nearly a year now I've see this one sweet, patina'd 60s wagon nearby that I've just started jonesing for! I finally left a note on the windscreen and snapped a picture of it. I didn't see any identifying logos. I'm guessing it's a late-65 based solely on the license plate, but I'm interesting in hearing from the more experienced crowd as to what it is I'm taking such an interest in. The board isn't letting me upload pics, so they're here. One is the actual pic...the other's a 'shopped lowering job. http://www.geocities.com/nelsonsvw@sbcglobal.net/p6230002a.jpg http://www.geocities.com/nelsonsvw@sbcglobal.net/p6230002b.jpg -Taylor
It's definately a Mercury, I guess about '64 or '65. Check the photo gallery at the web site below, you should be able to determine exactly what year it is. http://www.stationwagon.com
Cool! But I'll have to check back later as they're moving servers. I guess I can google in the meantime. -Taylor
Not a '63 probably a '64. I've had a couple of '63s and '64s. Excellent cars a little boatish but excellent cars.
If it's like my mom's Country Squire was, it's not wood, it's like contact wallpaper. What rots out is UNDERNEATH the side panels where the dirt and dust hold the moisture on the body panels.
And shoeboxer, you need to buy that thing, tear that fake wood shit off the sides, drop it, and throw on some astros & bellflowers. I hardly ever see early 60's mercs done as customs, and I've always wondered why. I like the shit out of 'em. I especially like the coupes with roll down rear windows.
The wood on the side of that Colony Park wagon is the best part by far! Don't you dare even think about taking it off!
Some of then ol mercs had a 410 in em it was a 390 bore with a 428 stroke they was a running Sunnabich hell even with the 390 they was healthy. Hope ya get it BTW keep the wood on it mount a surf boardor two and you have a later model woody. Dawg
very nice find.I'd slam it and toss a set of wheels on her and leave the body just the way it is.jus' my 2 cents
Well, I rode past it again this morning and the note was still there. If I could get my hands on it...wood not coming off...it's part of the patina! And dropped? Oh hell yeah! Different wheels? Maybe someday, but roll em stock for the time being. And that's (of course) if I could possibly get my hands on it. -Taylor
I believe the 410 was available in 1965 and 1966 only. Of course there is no knowing what might be in the engine bay of a '64 without actually checking. Its probably a 2V 390 like mine though. T.
Sadly, no. And I have been house-sitting for a friend so I haven't been able to swing by and even see if my note's been read. -Taylor
And the elderly gentleman opens the door ,all the while scratching his nuts. " Yes me and my second wife toured the country with that car in the 60's ,but I would never sell it, they bring big money now at these classic car auctions.I saw it on TV, I would sell it to BOYD though, cause he would make it really Cool, he wouldn't even have to Box the frame! " " I got some Candy bars ,want to help me look for my lost puppy, you have a purty mouth!"
