  1. ^^That was my thought. If it's been sitting there for as long as claimed it could be a lot worse off than it may appear on the surface. Floor and frame rot may be repairable....but all things are repairable at a price (in either $$ to pay someone to fix or your own materials and labor...either way it's not free)

brownbag40 -you should tell us something about yourself in your Public Profile. depending on your budget, you might get abetter deal buying two cars instead of just the Merc. start at $1K but, be ready to go much higher if he has any idea of what current prices are.

Say to him "I don't want to insult you" for starters.

I would use the "551 bux" as an ice breaker. You will know real quick what his reaction and stance is on the car. He may think thats a crazy good deal. Bring cash to negotiate and dont insult him.

  11. +1. If he thinks it's ridiculously low play it off as a joke and offer him double.

Then his second thought will be... gee I wonder what someone else will offer?
    Then he'll shop them around......

If the seller won't give a price, start low. Feel him out.

I'm leary of lowballing people hard from the get go. When someone asks me if I want to sell something, and they shoot me a **** price, our conversation is over.

Now on the flip coin, if I'm out to sell, I put out my price. I never list anything asking for offers. I don't want to be buyer and seller and dont want others to have to either.
