You can work with any hemi, really. But some are more suited for the cool visuals than for performance. Actually, most. If the valve covers are in beautiful condition, and you have things like spark plug insulators, tubes, and plug covers present, then that helps the value a bit. I do not know what going rate is on those out there, but I would think that for $750 for both together, they'd be worth salvaging. Give it a shot. You can always sell back off later.

This may not change anything, but upon review of the photos I took, the Chrysler 331 appears to have an aluminum bellhousing - which makes me think it make be a manual trans!

Blown Olds - PM me on what you would need for those heads...

Got them both home - still don't know what The Desoto is, (numbers ground off in front of intake), but it turns easy. The Chrysler doesn't turn - yet. Might be the drum locked up on the back of the trans - no movement @ the driveshaft at all. Have to pull the trans to find out. They both couldn't be any more complete.

While I'm at it - the Chrysler generator (supposedly out of a Dodge truck) has a weird "pump" thing on the back of it - power steering maybe? Never seen anything like it...

Turns out both are manual trans setups.

Anyone know where else to look on the Desoto for the block/head casting #'s?

Early Hemi cars with power steering had the power steering pump mounted on the back of the generator. I have a 54 Desoto Firedome w/power steering and it is set up that way. Worth a few bucks on the 'bay to anyone converting their big Hemi car to power steering. If you decide to sell the stick setup off the Desoto, let me know, I'd like to swap it in place of my PowerFlite. Cool that you got the motors.

So let's get this right. Two COMPLETE motors, two STICK ******'s all for $1000 !!!! That's $250ea piece. I've seen the DeSoto and Chryslet spark plug tubes go for over $100 alone on ebay and the need to be blasted valve covers go for $150. So I'd say you got your $$ worth. And you have damn manual trannies to boot !!
