Hot Rods Found two F100s

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 46international, May 16, 2022.

  1. Like the ***le says, I found two early '50s F100s on some secluded state land, both are VERY bad shape but have flatheads in them. If I able to get back in there with a skid loader, other than the motors, what should I try to get? steering box? brakes? Does the front axle have any value? what about the rear axle? I guess the transmissions are "truck" transmissions and have little value, or is this wrong?
I know some will say something about collecting parts from land that is not mine but this stuff has been sitting on this land for 30 plus years and I don't see how the state would care.

Check with the state. Some states get cranky if items are removed

The state might not care about the trucks, but they might care if you use a skid steer to retrieve them.
Parts for F100's are not hard to find, guessing the condition of those wouldn't be pristine.....would it be worth it?

Most parks around have a "carry in, carry out" rule. So maybe if you could fit your tools and parts in your backpack, it would be OK. What's a flathead weigh anyway?

Those 1950,s steering boxes and columns are desirable.
There's a fellow on Fordbarn sho buys them.

  7. I was thinking about the steering boxes.
good call on the shock mounts, did not think about them!

What does it take to get a dash out of one? Please don't risk any trouble over free stuff!

  9. I don't know what it would take to get the dash out, would not think they would be worth much. All the gl*** is broken out and I did not check out the gauges but I would bet they ate broken out also.

It may be difficult to find the right person to ask (as in has the authority to make the decision and be willing to make the decision) but always ask, who knows?, they may help you move them.

Heck, it’s government land, tell them it hazardous waste and they may pay you to remove them;)

  13. F1 or F100?
Brakes - backing plates, hubs, drums (F1 or F100)
    Front shock mounts (F1 only)
Steering column (F1 or F100) F100 is worth more (member on Fordbarn buys F100 boxes)
    Pedal ***embly (F1 only)
Anything else that is good and can unbolt has some value.

  14. Oldtimer, I think they are both F100's and good idea on the pedal ***y.

JFYI, the only flathead F-100 was '53, the first year for F-100.

  16. Thanks for the info, I know one says F100 on the side of the hood the other one does not have much of a hood and I have not seen any trim that says F1. I was just thinking they were both F100's but they are two different years (different gauge units) one must be a F1.

If they're retrievable, I'd get both trucks, decide what's salvageable back at your place.

If anyone asks, act annoyed and start telling them about the one you had to pick-up last week for maryland renewal program, real pain, these should be much easier.

  18. indyjps, good idea! but I talked to the lady that lives in the closest house to the trucks and she said they are on their land, saying that they did not think they bought that land at settlement but afterwords they found out that that land was included... now, how does that happen?
Anyway, she said I can have anything I want off of them (she was more worried about snakes then anything else). So I cut some block off plates and removed the carbs, pored some oil down the intake and installed the plates on the intake. It will be another month before I can get a skid steer over there and cut them up. Oh, she also said to just run the skid steer across the back of her property so I don't have to cut a path through the woods.

  19. Lucky break! As a gesture of good will, you might consider what it would take to completely remove them from her property, if that's what she wants. She's doing you a favor, it wouldn't hurt to reciprocate.

  20. That is what I want to do but I don't know how long I can have the skid steer so I told her that I would pull them up so her son can get to the easier.

Post pictures of what's there. Maybe others will chime in about what they need. At any rate, plan on completely clearing them off the land. If no interest has been shown up to this point, they certainly aren't going to want even more decimated derelicts sitting there.

The F1 pedal ***embly is more desirable than the F100. Running boards if they are good.

  24. duce, thanks for that info, I'll try to get the F1 pedals but the running boards are gone.

  25. Little update...
Pulled the engines the other week and I'm glad to report that one is in very nice shape, not even stuck no mouse nests under the intake and only one cylinder with very little rust. I checked for cracks at the valve bowels and found none, it does have the "standard" cracks from head bolt holes to water jacket holes. A quick rebore and crank cut will make this motor like new.
The other motor is bad, real bad every piston is stuck and a few still had water in the cylinders. I did not see any valve bowel cracks but just like all flatheads, it has the "standard" cracks. Now this would not be too bad but mice had gotten into the lifter valley and build nests. Seat stuffing, nuts and dirt along with mice piss has rusted this area bad, some valve springs are rusted through and I'm sure ALL valves, guides, keepers etc are going to be very hard to remove. I guess the way to get this all out would be to cut the springs and valves with a cut off wheel or even torch if I can't get the end ones with the wheel, and start driving stuff apart. Any ideas?
Or is it even worth the trouble?

I wouldn't bother. The valves, lifters and cam will be almost impossible to remove and you will likely do damage beating on them. S**** or yard art.

  27. OK, the good motor has a three speed transmission that looks ok, this is the one that came out of the F100 so I'm thinking it is a '53. It has a normal looking bellhousing not the 3" spacer thing that is on the other "bad" motor, anyway, is this transmission any good for a hot rod? as far as gear ratios go. This normal looking bell does have the truck style angled mounts and no mounts on the ******.

  28. Take the 3" spacer as you call it. It is the bellhousing, and even better if it still has the starter plate attached to it.

Found 1990 with NC ***le. There was paint under the rust. I paid $350.00 delivered. Pretty good body and doors. Lost interest. I still have it. Not for sale. img095.jpg F100 001.JPG View attachment 5471128 F100 010.JPG
