What a great find, I had boxes just like that one, too cool. Here's my first one, cleaned up from years of neglect and re purposed .
This is an newer toolbox, but done in the spirit of the old style ones. This is the box I got for bike tools and parts for repairing my sons bike when he started racing BMX . I have since become a bike mechanic as a career, and still use this box in my home shop doing repairs on the neighborhood kids bikes. A lot of good memories of trips to different tracks we went to to race come back when I look at it. Someday he will get the box and tools, and hopefully he will remember the good times too! The cabinet is one I got from a neighbor a couple blocks away a few years ago. He had it out on the curb with a free sign on it! Most of the COOL race related stickers were on it!
Cool..my old Kennedy machinist chest went with me everywhere since 1970. Last summer I found a bottom for it for $20 so I went on a big rebuilding jag....mixed my own paint and redid the old boxes...only 1 sticker on it now. Now I carry an old G.I. tool bag instead of a box.
Love the Gator Nationals BMX for Oldmar, Florida. I live a few miles away from the track and I think Oldsmar spent between 1 and 2 millions dollars building the place for everyone to ride their BMX bikes. Living in the south is much different from living up north in the way they spend money on anything to do with kids and sports. In the north they would not lift a finger to help fix up my sons baseball park so the league good play baseball. The fields where the kids play soccer at night with all the lights on it looks like a major baseball park would look. Jimbo
These things are coming out of the woodwork!!! Found this one at a flea market this weekend...$3!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If your tool collection DIDN'T start in one of those old gray Craftsman or Snap-On boxes, then I'm sorry for you. You were just downright neglected. Every garage should have at least one. No matter how many tools I amass, I always look at that first box; makes me feel a little humble and grateful every time. Thanks Dad...
I agree! My tool collection started in the 90s as a teenager and started in a black Craftsman box like that, but I thought it was snazzy because it had 2 drawers at the bottom LOL. But I get the same feeling looking back at it today and won't let it go. It has since become my storage for a lot of my electrical wiring and supplies for now.
I have one just like it with some old decals. Received it as a Christmas present complete with tools in 1964 when I was in the 8th grade. Still have most of the tools as well.
This is the perfect example of why I always open your posts. Yes I still have an old 2 drawer box as well as my other boxes. Thanks for the memories.
And here's my old toolbox, complete with a pretty nice selection of early-'70s stickers. It's big, homemade and also a garage sale score. I picked it up back in high school and it followed me around the midwest through my college years. (Note the hand lettering hiding beneath the peeling "Rocket" sticker.)
