Anyone have any pictures of a 57 chevy four door post done up in g***er style? any thoughts on this , possible weld up the rear doors or just s**** the project all together????
a friend of my dad's used to race a 4 door '57 with a straight axle in the 70's or 80's, he still has the car. next time i go to his shop i'll try to get a picture or two of it for ya. when he used to bring it to the strip, the guys ragged on him for having a 4 door, but when the green light dropped, he was always at the finish line before the others!
Hey man build it! There ain't nothing wrong with a more door that can haul ***. Im building a more door Austin A 40 G***er and Im happy as a cop in a free donut shop with it!
a g***er style 57 4 door would be goofy. I have no problems with 4 doors, but g***er style cars should be built out of a 2 door. welding up the rear doors makes it a 4 door with the doors welded up.. nothing more. on the other hand.. if you are going to build a bad ***ed motor and run some 12's or faster then go ahead and build it out of whatever you want. that's how i look at it
Look at www.g***ermadness.com under "visitors rides" - then "trifives". Toward the bottom of this page is a 57 Chevy 4-door g***er. Here's the thumbnail.
I know a guy that built a 56 chevy 4dr with a straight axle. It was hemi powered. Can't get much wilder. Go for it.
Why not convert it to a two door and still build it g***er style? Better than just welding up the doors. The conversion's been covered here.
There is nothing wrong with a four door g***er, I just posted pictures the other day of a 65 mercury comet 4 door g***er and it turned out good. I think if you weld up the doors you are trying to make it something its not. if you are putting a stout engine in it and are going to run it down the track you will get alot of respect for doing something different and making it fast. Do it Do it Do it. Think about it this way. It's a race car. Power to weight is what matters. moor door cannot weigh that much more, if it does then the weight it towards the *** is end which is the correct end for a g***er. Build it please.
got to find uses for the more doors, G***ers seem like a real good one to me. i say build it and keep a roll of toilet paper with you so when you p*** the guy throw it at him so he can wipe your ***!!!!
Here is a link to that four door Comet that my dad put a straight axle under for friends of ours. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=250798
The only people that don't 'get' more door g***ers obviously don't know much more than the big name g***er cars of the day. They were there and quite a few, check out my avatar for one.
I remember very recently on a another thread someone posted pics of a white tri-five more door g***er. I think it was called more doorz or something.... I'll try and find it. Todd
Number of doors on a drag car is irrelevant. the only numbers that count are the ones on the timing slip after the race. Saw a 4 dr drag car in a magazine back in the 60's that had the engine set back, a lot and a firewall about where the front seat usta be and the driver sat in the back seat and entered thru the back doors while the engine was accessed thru the front doors. I don't remember what cl*** it may have ran in. Some think 4 dr cars have a better weight bias since the added weight of the rear doors over basically hollow 1/4's is more weight over the rear wheels than a similar model 2 dr. Also, some strips require door handles so emergency crew can open the car in an emergency. this would probabaly go for rear door too, so beyond the why bother? factor, welding them up isnt a good idea.
At least you will be building something different then everyone else! Nothing wrong with a more door car, i for one dont like to play the i got the same thing as everyone else game neither should you. I see extremly nice 57 two doors all the time show us a ***y more door! Maybe im just biased because im building a Prefect instead of a Anglia lol
Even way back 4 door sedans were being built into "G***ers", as I recall, one of the very first G***ers to ever pull a wheelstand at the NHRA Nationals was a SBC powered '39-'41 Stude Champion 4 door sedan. And of course in latter years Jack Roush was known for puttin the hurt on the compe***ion in Pro-Stock with his Maverick 4 door
Only if its a 4 door hardtop. I say why bother to put the same amount of work into a car that is worth half as much when your done. Spend a few more bucks up front and get a 2 door body. The extra $$ spent will come out the other end multiplied several times over.
I guess I was thinking more from a looks aspect, not even seriously considering a real compe***ion car. You are right
