For the record Ac Delco filters are made by CHAMP. Delco does not make any of there own stuff anymore. They are just as aftermarket as anything else you buy. I would use a WIX brand or NAPA equivalent over anything else.

Dang! Glad I found this thread! Just put a Fram filter on because they were out of the Purolator I needed. Heading out now for the right one. Lucky for the 400 miles I've used it so far. Still near 60 on the oil pressure and 30 at idle, but why take chances?

    THANKS!

Way back in 1968 we bought a race hemi from the Ramchargers. They told us "WIX". 'Nuff said.

Yeah well, I could never figure out if the roll was supposed to pull off from the left or right so that option was too complicated.

I had a Fram compleatly plug, shutting down my oil pressure, only been on the car 1000 miles. Toasted a bearing before I caught it. Fram? never again!

Ditto what "Heathen" said for your daily driver and 2k oil changes....

For racing, only WIX will stand the high flow rates and pressure.

Up on the Forwardlook site a guy posted a pic of a Purolator cannister oil fliter that is clearly marked Made In India! Maybe sales are too slow on cannister type to justify making here, or maybe Purolator has gone overseas also.

  10. Use them Wix filters ,boys!!!! Not only are they great filters, they're made right here in my hometown....and with the textiles business all gone offshore, lots of ,car-lovin' good ol' boys work there...and the best thing they're made in the USA!!!!

Years ago Fram was the rated the highest in an oil folter test by Consumer Reports. But since then the company has been bought out by Allied Signal.
And everything Allied Signal buys out they operate off the good name the product had and farm out the manufacturing to the lowest bidder. Somewhere on the web is a pic of a spark plug plant in China and the place looks like it is from the 1800s. Allied owns and markets the Autolite brand of spark plugs now and they are mostly made in China. Also own a muffler line and have absolutely ruined the glasspack blanks I used to buy from J C Whitney. Instead of louvered core with the flap to the OD, they are now punched with the resulting bulge towards the ID reducing what was once a 2.5" ID core to less than 2". I don't use them anymore and returned the last set I bought.
A C I understand has been split off from GM as has Delco, which is now Delphi. Lately I have noticed the AC brand on a lot of cheap tools and other cheap auto oriented crap made in China or elsewhere in the 3rd World.
Since I run Amsoil synthetic in my truck and daily driver and plan to use it in m roadster after break in, I use Amsoil filters as they have the filtering capacity to handle the extended drain periods that you get with any good, true synthetic.
With what they are marketing today, I wouldn't put a Fram filter on a wheelbarrow!

Personally I use a K&N in the race car, and usually change it after every weekend event, two days of racing. I also use Mobil 1 15/50 and change that also. A K&N has been on the car since the motor was built in the late 90's and is still able to pull high 9's/low 10's.
While doing some research to pick a filter or maybe see if there was something better on the market I came across this article................................no it's not from an expert, but an average car guy.........................not a hot rod guy..........................an he went to the trouble to buy most of the mayor brands new............then cut them apart and discribe what he found. It's is kind of interesting reading and by no means conclusive, but some good information to digest.................IMHO

I usually run a Wix on the cars & trucks but I bought a System1 for the race car & that is the only way to go. It'll filter anything that might remotely get through a good paper filter & it is reusable. Pricey though but if you consider how many paper filters you go through in a cars lifetime...

Summit Racing sells an oil filter can opener for $40. Buy one of these and judge for yourself. :D
