Is 14 ga sheetmetal going to strong enough for boxing a frame? I want to box it in but I also want to dimple die the front of the frame from the cab forward. The dimple dies that I have found will allow for up to 14 ga. Thanks

  2. i think 14 gauge would be a bit light , unless the frame really doesn't need boxing and it's more for cosmetics. what frame is it?

Yea, let's see a "WELCOME" there porn star wanabe. 10-7 gauge should sufficient depending on your build.

  6. What type of frame, how heavy is the engine, how much torque? If it's mostly for show and putting around, use the 14 gauge. The frame got by without the boxing plates this long... If you're gonna hammer on it (power-wise) I would say 12 ga (minimum) or 1/8" flat stock (better).

It is a 40 Chevy truck frame with a 41 Chevy cab going on it. It is getting a small block chevy with a 4x2 offy and holley 94's. Nv3500 5 speed going to a 9". 6" kick up in the rear and 4" dropped front. 4"cab chop and a 4" channel. It will get 80 spoke 19x5 rears and 17x5 80 fronts from dayton and 19-8.20 dirt trackers in the rear and 17-5.00 grooved dirt tracks in the front. This a project my son and I are working on as it's going to be his first ride. He is 16 right now and we hope to have it done by this winter, so I can start my 29 roadster truck project. As far as the frame goes as far a I am concerned it is just cosmetic but I figured I would goes as heavy as the dimple dies would allow so it's gotta help a little. One other question would be do you guys think that the 4" will get it low enough or will I need a kickup in the front as well. If I do I guess I won't nee to worry about the boxing issue as we will just make the frame as well. Thanks

As far as the "porn star wannabe" that is an old softball nickname that just happened to stick.

It's best to do a proper intro in your profile. There is lots to learn and share here, but most of us would like to know a little about who we are communicating with, giving answer to. Sorta like if you walked into my shop and started asking questions. Nicer to introduce yourself and build it up from that.
Oh, yeah, 14 gauge is too light.
