In magazines I see photos of hot rods with frame horns and hot rods without frame horns. The ones without frame horns look real clean (in my estimation), but how is it done?

I would guess the horns are cut off and the frame pinched(?), maybe back as far as the firewall, so the frame rails fit inside the radiator shroud. Is this right? If so, is anything done to the cut ends of the frame rails: e.g., cap them off; shape them in some way?

I ***ume pinched is narrowing the crossmember (e.g., cut an equal piece off each side) and bend/cut & weld the frame rails toward the center and rewelding the crossmember so the frame rails are narrower. Is this right?

    thx,
    tmr
