I have a 41 Chevy special dlx 4 door and wanted to swap out the frame, I have been told use the S10 frames or use a Ranger frame has anyone done this and what frame did you use? any and all information or pictures will help greatly.

  2. Type in S-10 frame swap into the search function, TONS of info there.

I swapped frames from a 64 F100 to a 87 F150. I got power disc brakes and power steering. I will never swap a whole frame again.

  4. What's the problem with the 41 frame? A frame swap is a big can of worms that most builders only do once.

  5. I agree. HRP

  6. Chevy S-10 or Ford Ranger , either would be a great choice for your `41 Chevy

easy to do , just bolt up and go...what could go wrong? then you will have a quick, easy and cheap hot rod. just take plenty of pictures and post them here

I think Murphy's Law is ready to roll its sleeves up and go to work when the idea comes up that something that seems easy is going to be, just because it's got everything going for it. Like all the right pieces, in all the right places. I know a few cases do work, but a few gamblers win so the rest of us will toss down our kroners and rubles and shillings and lose our asses off. The odds are against us. And here's why: engineers don't work ass backwards, even if it seems like it sometimes. They start with the idea that the ground is always going to be there, and put four wheels in place to hold up whatever vehicle they want to end up with, and put a frame down first. They don't start with a body and stick stuff up under it. So from the get-go you're climbing out on a limb and sawing toward the tree to cut it off. They way I see it is to take the frame you have and make all these new parts fit it, that way you don't have to worry about getting it back under the car for starters, not that you won't have to do some trimming here and there to accommodate added suspension parts, even if you do a Mustang II deal on the front, etc. Or, a clip, which is also a pain, when it comes time to figure out how to attach bumpers, and radiators, etc. And, trust me, there is another law that works on Hot Rods that goes kind of like this, if you change one thing, you are going to have to change two or three more because of it. Then again, you might get lucky. Check on here and see how many winners there have been with dropping the body of one car on the frame of another. I could all wrong and talking like the old man they brought to the funny farm who thought he was Elvis, just because he could sing some of his songs pretty good in the shower. Me, I sound like Caruso.

If your original '41 frame is sound and straight, use it as a basis... you will be happier in the long run.

my 48 has a camaro sub that was already installed when I got it. rides pretty good, but nothing but headaches otherwise. required a custom radiatior, none of the inner tins fit right, body shimms needed etc. etc.

given the options you listed I think s-10 is the better choice (use a LWB they're "adjustable") but I think there are much better options out there.

  15. My buddy put an 87 freightliner on a 95 s10,nearly a bolt in.
The only downside is that he used to be able to haul more weight with the heavy duty freightliner suspension,, he could haul 2 orcabetties now he can only haul 1.
