My '28 has an inside frame width of 28". The SBC fit just fine, but my plan is for a BBC.How much inside frame width is needed for a BBC? I had planned to run 66 corvette exhaust manifolds since they are very tight to the block and make the most power of any cast manifolds. I do not want tube headers. Anyone have one in thier car that can get an inside dimension?
I've got a couple in cars, if you need more exact dimensions, but here's a great site link to popular US made engine dimensions: http://www.carnut.com/specs/engdim.html As you can see the overall width is 27", so factory manifolds should put the exhaust outside the frame rails, or very close. Depends on how high it will sit in the chassis, and how you run the exhaust.
Thats a pretty interesting page! Thanks. It looks like there is a frame clip in the old girls future.I can go about 33'inside without haveing to make fender mods (which I dont want to do).The length is of little concern because I'm not running a hood and can just move the rad shell ahead as needed.I'm not going to use side motor mounts either,so that will free up some space.
Are you going to use a engine plate front and rear, instead of side mounts? Hope you aren't planning on mounting it like the '55-'57 Chevys were, unless you use a bellhousing mount too. That's a lot of torque to control! Should be tons of fun in that little/light car!
There are some pics of a 427 in a Model A on this thread just so you can see the overall fit ... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2309397&postcount=24 According to this page, the Sanderson cast manifolds QP2000 will work in a Model A chassis ... http://www.dreamershotrods.com/sandersonqp2000bigblockchevycastheaders.aspx
I am useing a front plate with 55 chev buiscut insulators, and a steel bellhouseing with 55 chev rear insulators. The trans will hang on the bellhouseing.
