OK I have tried the search function and it was as confused as you most likely are after reading the ***le of this thread. But I have a simple question thats bugging the **** out of me, I want to build a traditional 31 A coupe, 4 inch chop 4 inch channel, kind of an east coast look but I dont think I want to z the frame I want the tires to fill the relief from the fenderwells and not have the tires above the relief I dont care if the rearend is visible but will the car look wrong? I cant find any pics that definetly say the cars in them where built this way I am lost any help out there in rod land? any pics would be great
Hi Joe. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this myself. I have a 31 coupe and also am planning to channel the body just enough to get the rear tire to fill the federwell area. I'm anticipating about a 30" rear tire, and was going to use coilovers for a little adjustability in ride height. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but you're not alone! Little help, anybody? Greg.
Why don't you want to "Z" the frame? You wouldnt have to but you will cut the amount of rearend travel if you don't. What kind of rear suspension are you planing? If I were you I would plan to at least raise the rear portion where the crossmember is at least a frame width, more if you have any thoughts of lowering in the future.
If this helps you any this '32 frame has a a 3 1/2 'Z" at the rear with a model A crossmember and reversed eye spring mounted on top of housing ala Model A. That would be about one frame width on an A frame. The suicide front spring mount drops the front 4''. 750 16 R 600 16 F brings it back to slight Fwd lean.
a 4"channel will put it real close with no Z ***uming you are using the stock spring over set up and crossmember mine is Z'ed 2 1/2" with no channel
