A buddy calls me this morning and asks do you want a flathead.
    So I says... hell ya....
It's been sitting for about 2 years in the corner of his shop. It was running back then. I don't have a car that needs a motor. So, it'll probably sit for a little while.
Should I just oil and bag it?
Or, should I take the heads and oil pan off and check it out?(I'm leaning toward this cause well... I want to see the insides).
This is my first flatty. All of my motor experience is small blocks and Triumph bikes.
Are there any wierd things I should know before I jump into this?
Are there any parts that wear prematurely that I should pay close attention to?
    Thanks
    Cory

change the oil , make a stand for it , and see if it will run , cut a piece of glass , that will fit over the carb. and make a coffe table out of it ! till you find somthing to put it in ! crank it up when your buddy`s come over . open all the window`s !!! they are pretty tough motors , unless it`s been open ? to where metal , dirt , and trash. could get in ! I would leave it sealed up , and see if it will run ! you might be surprized ! I have gotten car`s to crank up and run great after siting out in field`s for ever. good luck .

No, you shouldn't store them very long - it's probably already gone bad. Just send it to me & I'll dispose of it! ;)

  4. Remember this day. The day you got the most expensive freebie known to man. Don't ask me how I know.

I was given one not too long ago. It also was sitting in a shop. I took the heads and pan off just to snoop. It looks like a recent rebuild. Upon pulling the intake off, I noticed two guide locks out of place. It wouldn't hurt to look.
