A customer and friend whose dad had passed had a couple of customs and sold them off years back. This guy's brother, the Customer's uncle has also passed and had a roadster of some time back in the 60s and 70s and bought this motor and put it in his car and everybody said it was too much motor so they took it out and put it under a bench in about 1978. Nobody knew what it was so I finally got a picture of it. I was thinking it's probably a Small block chev, but could be a blown hemi LOL. I finally got a picture and only one. From what I can see, it's an early motor with staggered valve cover bolts and the pointy tip Marking on the front of the heads."fulie"? I have to go pick it up today about noon and see what other treasures are in the garage. IMG_20240314_173604.jpg

It could be good and it could be scrap but I'm sure there's a couple of parts on it that I could use and whatever else is in the garage that they have no idea about. My friend had already got the guy's toolboxes and has no idea about what's in them and it seems like she got them just to get them Because the nephew has to be out of the house in 2 weeks. So whatever is there is going in the trash.

Yea, I would be on it in a second. Looking forward to what you find. I’m sure it is definitely worth the effort to go get the stuff. Price is at least right. :D

Hope you are not only bringing a truck, but a trailer too. Those are the situations where if you don't grab everything that isn't nailed down, you will kick yourself later.

I like how they taped off the heads and oil fill and left the valley open. :D

Wise words here. Before cousin Billy and nephew Bob suddenly remember they were promised the bits 5 years ago (ask me how I know).

Sage advice. I'd also bring a few hundred bucks with me, just in case I had to grease someone a bit to get my hands on something they might be slightly hesitant to part with.

Work from the assumption that they want it all gone and don't value it highly. Get whatever can be saved, resell what you can't use. Give some of it away if you have to, to keep it out of the landfill. I know that can be a pain in the butt, but you could do the hobby a great service.

Also take pics. I love stories like this!

An old friend passed about 6 months ago. His two adult kids took what they wanted, had room for, thought highly of. then offered what was left. I got a few items, but what was left filled two roll off dumpsters. Car/truck parts, hunting fishing items, and a household of furnishings. Sad to see things go that way.

Stager bolt covers ended in '58 or early '59, don't think double hump heads came along until 327, in 62. Or that's what I remember.

Hope you come out on that trip.

The "too much engine for the car they put it in". I've seen a few of those and they weren't too powerful for the vehicle, they were just a combination that wasn't happy on the street, Small block with 12.5 pistons,Cam that belonged in an altered and the biggest carb available that day in time. Engine wasn't happy under 3 grand but would pull like a maniac going through the gears along with getting 3mpg.

  23. Go Man Go! Load up as much as you can and worry about what to do with it later. I usually get there 15 minutes after they say "Nobody wanted the stuff, so we took it all down to the dump!"

I have a 57 Chevy BelAir my uncle special ordered & bought new and the engine has never been apart. It has a 225hp, single four barrel (WCFB), dual exhaust 283 engine with those heads on it. That chart isn't totally correct.

Here it is unloaded. The number came back to 58 to 61 I believe. And a picture of the t bucket he took it out of. And the horde of extra stuff I got for free. Said anything car related, take it. The motor is a candy brown color and the inset on the valve covers is the same, and the head bolts look like their anadized gold to match the t 20240315_142033.jpg 20240315_142041.jpg 20240315_142021.jpg 20240315_142751.jpg 20240315_142757.jpg 20240315_143236.jpg 20240315_143241.jpg 20240315_143246.jpg 20240315_143302.jpg bucket I'm guessing.

Can't get a good picture but with the flashlight I can see that It's got some huge pop-up pistons. It's probably some good compression.

Sweet! You did well. I'm guessing the pics of the engine unloaded are at your place? Because I see all kinds of automotive related stuff in the background! A fairly early 283 with a bit of hot rod history, they don't get a whole lot better than that.

Yeah, it's unloaded at my shop. I searched hi and low in the garage for the tunnel Ram and headers, but I believe that went on the other motor When he put it back in the car.
