the HAMB has been good to me & i thought i could make a small repayment. this is an early corvair glove box lid turned upside down. add some gauges, a speedo and some turn sig lites and you're good to go.
Geez, I never thought that when I was driving my '63 Spyder back in the day that I'd be thinking of using my glove compartment lid for a gauge panel. Very creative! One comment that I might make is to possibly make the big speedo/dash hole 3-3/8" rather than 3-3/4. Most all of the standard gauges made after 1948 were made to fit into a 3-3/8" hole. The nice part about that is that the overlap of the bezel lip will probably not impinge on the chrome surround. You'd want a little bit of space between the outside of the bezel lip & the chrome surround, otherwise it'll look a bit unbalanced. But, the conception is just fantastic!
I like this. I've collected a ****load of extra gauges and I know where some Corvair parts cars are, I'd like to make up one or two just to look at, possibly for future use.
Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg is overflowing with early model Corvairs….excellent thinking outside the box
Cool idea, I had to go find an image to see what it looked like in the wild. That under dash radio panel has possibilities as well!
@hrm2k beat me to it! Now the Corvair Ranch here will be devoid of these as well as steering boxes...
