The SBC in my coupe came free, but it took some time. I was given a 400SBC and what I was told two TH400 and ended up being TH350s. They came from a striping customer who wanted them gone. A year later, I traded the 400 off for a 454 long block to a short track racer in Eastern Ohio. They live for those 4-bolt main 400s. He had a friend with a stock pile of big blocks who owed him money. So he got the pick of the pile and we made the deal. A couple years later, I sold that long block to one co-worker for $275 and then in the same motion gave $200 for the SBC with 88K miles that I'm now running. So while there was cash laid out, it was cash that I did nothing to get and had some left over too. All this happened over about four years, except for the last two steps. That took about 15 seconds. Now that I think about it, I don't remember what happened to those two TH350.
Two frogs on a lilly pad, one said, "time sure is fun when you are having flies" I'm retired. My time is free
A local radio station has a swap or sell program every morning and people call in with everything under the sun. Sometimes I just call in looking for stuff. You would be astounded at what some people will give you if you ask.Old pedal cars, juke boxes ,pin ball machines, you just have to be willing to spend the time to go look at them.
Yep. it never hurts to ask. Unless the reaction from the person you ask is not so positive. But, always check free section of craigslist, penny saver paper and more. Have scored good and bartered some free stuff for stuff I really needed. It is OK to give stuff away free too, keep the cycle going.
I havent picked them up yet but the guy I just bought my Hemis from said that if I wanted the Artillery wheels off his Desoto I could have them for free.
Oh I forgot. I bought a few things at a shop sale for 50.00, sold off the **** for 80.00 and ended up with the Plazma cutter that was in the pile and 30.00 extra. The Plazma is a old one but works nice still.
