Howza Bruthas, Here is a Good News-Bad News situation here. Good News- I recently received a '71 Ford 302 enginme and C-4 tranny for free from Cooter up here in St Helens. Bad News-While using my breaker bar on the crank, I can only getthe engine to turn 1/3 of the way before it stops. I mean just plain freezes, man. I am doing this with the 'plugs pulled and the distributor is out. The tranny is in neutral, too. I pulled both valve covers and everthing is moving pretty freely up til the thing stops. What gives? The plugs seem to be in good shape with no carbon build up and no fouling of any sorts. The oil is fine and when I dropped the distributo in, it turned freely til the engine stops. What gives?
Sounds like you better drop the oil pan. Something like maybe a broken connecting rod might lock things up......hope not.
...Oh, and on another note, still waiting to hear more about the flttys that fellow has and also, any HAMBers who own F-1's, I may have a ton of parts for swap and sale soon. Stay tuned...
I just finished freeing up a 350 SBC that was ful of water for 16 years. Pitons came out just slicker than snot when I hit them hard with my sledge hammer Got a nice mock up block now since there's a rus pit about .100" deep in the side of a cylinder. I know it can be sleeved, but it's a 350... Sleeves cost more than the blocks! I think maybe I'll cut the middle webbing out of it with a plasma cutter to lighten it up and use it to mock up with... Or maybe use it for a strawberry pot?
Just saw a good article in a restoration magazine in which chipped dry ice was poured into a stuck piston. The extreme cold actually shrunk the piston enough to push it out of the bore without damage. Of course this would involve engine removal/dis-assembly,but I guess it's worth a try before breaking up the piston to get it out.
check to see if the dissy turns with the crank turning if it does, Pull all the accessories Dissy, fuel pump etc. and try it if that doesn't do it pull th pan and see which rod threw.
YIKES! Mother pussbucket.... Ya think it actually through a rod?? I thought that when this happens that there is metal visible in the oil, that there is damage to the block visible and the pan usually has a hole too. Or am I really that freakin'green??
