Figuring that you have somewhere between four and six boxes there that doesn't sound that bad.
I've shipped several large items across the country. 51 Merc coupe p***enger door via Greyhound to New Jersey for about 80.00. A 65 Chevelle trunk lid for about the same.

The measurements are on line but you want it packaged in a pretty stiff cardboard box and it needs to weigh less than 100 lbs. I've found good boxes to ship that kind of stuff at furniture stores and quite often they have big chunks of styrofoam to go along with the boxes. Foam and bubble wrap doesn't weigh much but wadded up paper gets heavy in a hurry.

I just sent a fender from Boise, ID to Austin, Tx for $62 by Greyhound.

  6. $400 sounds like the seller is screwing you without lube.

Been a few months since I used bus. Huge Tandem bicycle was under $70 and weighed 60 pounds. Shipped a 32 Ford Cowl to teh southeast for $42.

Front fenders might be adding to the total, dunno if they can even fit in bus luggage holds. The ones I sold had to go truck.

  7. That price seems way high for greyhound, someone must be padding their cost on that one.

Yeah, that amount seems alittle tall to me too, maybe someone's tryin to bust in off in ya cuz your from OZ? I'd contact ''the grey dog" direct, and see on size limits & costs. I've shipped Merc deck lids, quarters, fenders & a back light frame, all under 4' & 100 lbs. with the dog. A much better deal than a trucking outfit.

Ya I did a pair of (gl***) 39 chevy fenders from Connecticut to Cali (clear across the country) for around $160. You are being bent over a barrel. Get the zip codes of each place, the weight, & size. Then go to the greyhound site and get a quote yourself.

They have a priority service which may explain the higher price. Standard service means its goes if the have room. Example being the bus is full of p***engers and all their luggage, standard service means your stuff gets unloaded and waits for the next bus that has the space. Priority means your stuff stays on the bus and they make it work. Also adding insurance may increase the price as well. This was the info I got about a year ago, so things may have changed, good luck!

If your boxing them, check fed ex...plus it would be service to your address instead of having to go to the bus station to pick them up....

That is way to much money in my opinion. I just shipped a model A rear fender from Chicago to Minnesota using USPS for around $25 or $30. I also just received some Model AA truck running boards from Oklahoma (84" long) via USPS and I think I only paid around $30.00. I live in the Chaicago burbs.

The key here is to not put them in a box. You want to wrap them in shrink plastic wrap and take them that way to the USPS.

yeah i reckon i would want something for my time also to pack all that **** up and send it to someone i did'nt know. i dont have a problem with being charged some bucks to do that . my main concern was what kind of service greyhound provide when it comes to reliability and so on. looking at it this way,i paid 50 bucks to send a 2 piece driveshaft only 320 kms away to be balanced. 400 to pack all that other gear up and get it the best part of halfway across the usa seems fairly reasonable when i think about it like that. anyways i need those bits for my project so thats what it is. thanks everyone for you replys. cheers. chop.....:D:D:D

I have used them about 15 times and never had a problem. No damage, no lost parts, & no complaints. Good luck to you.:)

Most likely, the reason for the $400 cost is that each item is being shipped as a separate package. Since Greyhound accepts huge packages (30"X47"X82"), I'd suggest the shipper obtain a large box from a local bodyshop and package multiple items in one container (as long as the weight doesn't exceed the maximum 100 lbs limit). A few years ago, I shipped (by Greyhound, in one LARGE box), a set of fenders, running boards, splash aprons, and fuel tank cover from TN to MA for roughly $100. All of the items being shipped were fibergl***. The package weighed just under 100 lbs.

If your seller isn't packaging the items, ask him to use reinforced packaging tape and bind multiple items together. Greyhound will ship items that are not packaged - they just have to be labeled.

    Good luck.

If you go Greyhound, MAKE SURE that the shipper and receiver have each other's numbers and verify that Greyhound has the phone numbers, then get a tracking number and track your shipment. Greyhound is the way to go, BUT they are terrible about letting you know when the shipment has arrived... and after a few days, they may send it back... and not really tell you about it. This happened to me twice.

The only company i use is shipping alliance! good prices and fast deliveries without h***les or troubles

  23. Correct. Last I shipped was a vega roof for 35 bucks from Wisc to KCMO.

Best bet is look for a HAMBer in the area (try a new thread with that info in the ***le) who is willing to pick them up and ship them for you. Maybe someone who isn't trying to pay for med school.

this came from new york to california on a greyhound. the guy had to drive something like 10-20 miles to the station and the fender is pretty heavy and all he charged was $100 for shipping and his time

greyhound is certainly the way to go!
