im frenching the headlights on my 54 chevy. i ground the lip off the headlight buckets and mounted them inside the fender. Now, my question is has anyone welded the trim rings to the fenders? if so, what wire speed should i run it at and what temp? I know all migs are different but mine is a 100 amp Matco Tools mig which is pretty close to a Lincoln 100 amp. I dont wanna screw em up too bad lol. I realize that they are going to slightly warp from the heat but thats not a big deal. thanks!

I have the 140 amp Matco mig, and didnt warp mine. Welded Mercury rings on my 50 Chevy.
Lots of tack welds, all the way around. I did 4 on the left light, then 4 on the right.
back and forth, over and over.

Slow and low, that is the tempo.

I used a Lincoln 110v wire feed with a moderate temp and the feed speed adjusted to 5.5. Take your time and make sure you distribute the TACK welds evenly.

Are your rings chromed? If they are try to sand/grind enough off the edges to get a good weld. Use a low setting starting your bead on the fender and work it up onto the ring. Like 1950chevysuburban did, about 4-5 spots should hold just fine.
