Lots of guys just go with the aluminum dryer duct tubing; it's bendable and the right size. We'll be doing that with the nephews 51 Bus Coupe. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Hey I've been thinking about this too after just getting the sbc into mine, I haven't fitted the inner fenders yet and it does look tight for my heater too, mines a '51 so wonder if I could squeeze a heater matrix in somewhere as well. If anyone has any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as well.

I installed a 401 Nailhead in my 50 Chevy sedan delivery and the stock fresh air tubes fit ok.

Whatever you need to do, keep them! Like an idiot I eliminated mine and often wish I had kept them.
I also think semi-flexible duct might be your best bet if the originals will no longer fit. (They would not fit on my car, probably because of power steering, A/C, etc.)

I can only assume you have the deluxe heater with the heater core in the engine compartment.

^^^^^there was also a small heater available that was self contained under the dash, as well as cars that never came with a heater at all. they had just a vent tube without any heater core in it. I don't have a good photo showing that vent tube, but it looks like the other side except part of it is under the battery so it is shorter. you can see a bit of it in the engine compartment photo . click pics to enlarge.

When we put the 350 into Chick's 50 Ute we kept the tubes. No fitmet problems as we used Chassis Eng mounts. One of the tube was really rusty under the batter box and I shoved dryer tube up inside for some 'fresh' air. What we got was super heated air blowing out the vents as the exhaust manifolds were right above the tube and heated the air and the V-8 put out a little more heat than the Stovebolt. Thought about putting insulated pipe from a gas heater vent inside, but ended just capping them off at the shut-off area. Now, you might be able to get cool air from the area between the inner fender and the fender, but the windows still roll down.

I have a 50 chevy coupe with stock front end still under it. I have a 283 with matching powerglide, no problems with the stock factory vent tubes and stock battery box, have lots of room around the motor on both sides. Did use 55/56 265 exhaust manifolds to clean the steering.

  9. sotck pipes should fit well. they don't interfere with engine.
I kept mine off with my swap, took heater out all together
