Howdy all... new to the hamb.... and just thought I'd throw out a little intro ...I'm located sacto ca... midtown.. names john... aka the motorhead... OK i know some a you guys are thinkin' there's lots a motorheads on this site and what's this guy thinkin' when he calls himself a motothead in the midst of all us motorheads.... well I'm more of a generic motorhead... not the all out speed guru type... but a more across the board type motorhead... building stuff like stirling and erricson, and brayton engines ... is part of my thing... the other part of my thing is old cars and bikes... a short list of my stuff is 34 chief bobber, 15 harley 3 speed bobbered out, 15' american lafrance turned speedster, and a 20 something dodge touring w/ 53 olds and 3 speed (see pic) as I said I'm a nut for building funky engines.... like gas turbines from turbos... and stirling engines... and weird stuff like that... so if you have a burnin' desire to make a gas turbine.... and you have access to a turbo... maybe I can help.... untill next time....
.......Ahhhh, don't worry you'll fit in! Welcome, nice intro, thank you. This is a great place. See ya around. Joel
Stirling engines ? Cool ! This buddy of mine who does some of my machine work builds and sells kits to make your own Lake Breeze fan replica that is powered by a kerosene lamp. I drew the 6 pages (24 X 36) of blueprints that he includes in his kits.
Here's a pic of the lafrance.... it's a work in progress but we made a seat and have been chuggin' arround town....600 inch 4 cyl t head...chain drive... with the right sprokets I'm told it good for 90-100...straight 5" exhaust...you kind of feel it before you hear it...
Welcome, nice tub project ....... I'm intrigued with the gas turbine thing, and I have access to a few turbochargers ..... Sounds Kewl hunter
Got any left overs from the Firetruck? My dad has an '18, '19 & a '23. Had them all for 30 years. I'm DEEP into those things and don't often run into any one owning one. I almost bought a 1919 for myself but had nowhere to store it. Welcome to the board.
Most guys who say they dance to the beat of a different drummer are just self proclaimed people without taste... You, my friend, are different. Your stuff looks cool. Welcome aboard! Sam.
Oddball stuff. Not totaly trad not high-zoot. I like it. Well looks like your just one more missfit, among missfits. More than welcome friend. The PknBner
Hey Jim... So you know the lafrance.... coool... My first taste of a lafrance came when my buddy got a 21' 6 cyl pumper.... he was a little intimidated by the beast so he let me have driving rights.... the 6 cyl was 900 inches....dual ignition... and torque up the but... I always thought I'd like to have one... then I hear these guys r makin' speedsters out of em'... well that was it... a speedster sounds more practical than a fire truck...so I got me a 4cyl...as for parts I do have the floorboards... but thats about it...
Odd stuff for sure, but then again this is the HAMB! From one goofball to another, welcome! What, you live in Kauai AND Cali? I spent a week in Waimea a few years ago....cool place.
Oh, man! A speedster from a fire truck! I like it...think I'll look for an old 20's-30's firetruck to make a lakes-modified from! Too cool............
another phan o the phire truck... segraves r neat...v12's right? have u seen the one the guy made a 37? into a boatailed speedster... I saw it in a parade in Sant Cruz... I think he's buds with the Blastoline guy.... Just somethin' bout all those cubes that's pretty cool...
My dad's trucks are all 6 cylinder. One of them is SUPER rare and one-of-a-kind with dual magneetos AND dual distributors so it has 24 spark plugs on a 6 cylinder! Also has a one-off oversized cooling and fuel system. It was special ordered and paid for by William Wrigley (the gum guy) to protect his house on Catalina island after he had one mansion burn down. He wanted to make sure that there were no excuses for this truck to make it to his house. They do sound awesome running through that big straight pipe. All that weight and NO REAR BRAKES! The guys who used to haul ass driving those monsters to fires had to be CRAZY! Also you area a mile off the ground sitting on top of those things with NO belts to hold you into the seat. Interesting stuff for sure. One of my dad's trucks still has the Firestone "big 'n littles" with the war ration stamps on the side. Old pictures of the trucks in service are the best.
So 4 plugs per cylinder.... wow I've never seen that....What year is the 6 cyl.... i'm thinkin' it must be the 20's or earlier....I've seen a couple of early segraves.... I know of one in auburn ca... it has 6 idividual cylinders...and t head.... really neat engine... any pics?????
