You guys, the main reason I registered on this site was so I could contact the artists about their artwork for sale. Uh, having said that, I haven't done any such thing yet--it's not like I'm a wealthy art collector or anything, but damn, there's some good shit on here.

I think it was Bone Daddy who posted some artwork by one of his homies named Mitch Swartout, and I've been meaning to ask if Mitch has had prints made. Joe?

[I feel like I've asked this question before--is Bone Daddy still active?]

A little O/T subject but. Since alot of people like last weeks driving shot of the Buick, I thought they might like this one. The photo is by my Boss Mark Simpson. He is a HAMBer but is a little to modest to post it. So I will for him. Hope you don't mind.

I started a little photo studio and did my first shoot on Tuesday. The model is my good friend and Charm City roller-girl... Miss Edie.

If'n I get a chance I'll post an atractive human sketch later but for now here's a couple of just starteds-es.

    (I probably shouldn't post these til they're done, but what-a ya- gonna-do.)

This needs some real massaging. It started as a 49 ford ( AMT '53 Ford custom grille.)

Yeah it's a homemade replica of an 03 Olds, never heard of a "bliss surrey".........it's not my first choice as a real neat, fun ,exciting, tire-smokin', ass draggin' kinda car but, everybody's different !!....come to think of it, that's what everybody says about my VW !!

  22. Here's mine this week...not finished yet, but close...

    "The Ghost Pilot of Keniew"

It's a tribute to "Corn" Sherril who was or wasn't a fighter pilot in WWII. As the story goes, he and 10 other guys who had escaped to the island of Mindanao, off the coast of the Phillipines, in May of 1942, cobbled together a P40 from parts of 5 other planes. They loaded it up with 4 300 lb bombs and an extra 50 gallon gas tank and a healthy supply of .50 cal ammo and Ole Corn (got his nickname from his love of corn whiskey) mounted up, B-lined it to the Island of Famosa (Taiwan) some 1000 miles away, where he proceded to wreak heavy damage on a Japanese airfield. As it was written in readers digest 1945:

"He strafed them row on row, and he cut the Jap flag from the headquarters building with his wingtip. He laid his first wingbomb right in the enemy offices."

Now the story that caught my attention goes on like this:

After dropping his bombs and making his point, he headed for the Chinese mainland, with barely enough fuel left to make it. Japanese zeros took after him and ripped his P40, scoring multiple direct hits. He managed to escape and fly on, but at some point before he got to China he died from the wounds he took. Somehow, the bird kept flying. Seems he must of slumped over and got hung up on the stick at an angle that kept him on course for quite a while.

As he approached the Chinese mainland, 8 P40's from the Chinese Air Task Force- formally known as the Flying Tigers- stationed at Keniew, where scrambled after recieving a disaptch from a remote outpost reporting a lone, unidentified airplane heading they're way. The pilots soon got visual contact on the mystery aircraft and fired off a few bursts. As they got closer they reckognized it as an American P40. They also saw that it was shot to hell! The fuselage was a sieve, the cockpit nearly blasted away. They could see the pilot behind the shattered glass of the cockpit, his face covered in blood. They were amazed he was keeping a steady course.

They began to escort the plane. Minutes later, Corn's mission ended when his plane plunged to the ground and exploded.

Sorry about the long winded explanation...but I've always dug this story.

    Dan- Nice tat...

    Burny, that's awesome!
Jigger, thanks, man... not just for the comment, but for bringing back to mind that old AMT kit... your work again this week is just kick-ass, and loaded with personality (I was lookin' over your stuff week by week, and that's when it hit me... the thing that makes your work so great-- personality. TONS of it, man...)
And surf monkey... I believe my initial reaction to your stuff this week was "holy sh*t", followed by a slack-jawed stare at my monitor. NICE.

One of my favorite cars of all time. I am pretty sure someone did a clone of this car not that long ago.
I believe the original is still up in some rafters somewhere.
Burny that art is awsome. Even better along with that story.
