  13. What a great start. Bob, as always, fantastic stuff. Then there is the Chevy Suburban, WOW! And then the French show flyer. Can it get any better?
    Later,

I had hoped to have this finished for fathers day but as it turns out I didn't make it.

    1960 surf adventures

    Hello,

Summer vacation always brings back a spark or two about what to do for the next 82 days, after throwing your cap with the t***le, up in the air. Surfing and summer were two things that were up our alley and we planned on it daily or weekly for sure. We also kept and eye out for those Summer Southern Hemisphere or tropical storms that send pristine waves our way.

Our early surf adventures played out nicely using our old vans and station wagons for camping and living for a week or two. But, we always knew the size of those early vans and wagons was limiting what and who we could take with us on those surf adventures. The wagons and vans were fine for sleeping two, comfortably.

There were plenty of people that wanted to go with us, but space was a problem. There was also another reason for limiting the number of people going. Over stuffed old vans and wagons made the trip take longer, since we were packed to the brim with heavy longboards and stuff we brought.

Some of the station wagons were fast and had room for 3-4 people, but the two extra people eventually slept outside or under the vans in moist weather. Sure, a tent would have been fine, but, back then the tents were made of canvas and they were heavy, too. So, it adds more weight and a makes a slower road trip to and from the surf spots.

We liked the style of a Nomad Wagon with their side design and cool appearance. This 1960 Chevy Suburban surp***es the wagons in size, yes, but the capacity for power and room inside is almost doubled. We still get the similar side panel look of a swoopy roof support and 360 degree vision all around through the windows.

With just enough v8 power of a 283, it would make driving pleasurable and not have to worry about steep hills or long road grades we knew were on the main roads to and from the surf spots. Driving in a foreign country was not a problem. there are/were plenty of expert Chevy/GMC mechanics everywhere.

Bucket seats, a floor stick shift ( vs an automatic: It is easier to start a stick shift car if something does not start right away) a cooler and two burner stove for the longer overnight stays. Also, it would be powerful enough to cruise with an A/C unit on those hot summer days. A lowered rake style for the suspension was to make the air flow p*** by us quickly, is/was mandatory.

If a big, moving, wind resistant box is the concern, lowering it as safe as possible would help in the long run. It would also allow us to cruise in style.

...Since Customs are Trending as in are they going to survive...I'd say if Customs go the way of the Dino, Hotrods wouldn't be far behind...I think we're good for now...and @Cyclone Kevin should have an update about now on the Burple Merc that he had me drum up...
