    Wasn't sure if these should be posted here or in the 'VINTAGE SHOTS FROM DAYS GONE BY! ' thread. A friend down the street was going to toss these notebook separators of his from back in high school [Baltimore Polytechnic] from around 1960. Wish I had kept any of mine along with comic books and baseball and airplane cards. scan20170714_11363362.jpg scan20170714_11351979.jpg scan20170714_11335490.jpg scan20170714_11303418.jpg scan20170714_11322479.jpg

    This one has a story. Some of you know I paint immaculate renditions of cars that I come across, sometimes on commission, other times because a car simply needs painting. The first Sunday of every month in Atlanta there is a show called Caffeine & Octane. Lots of interesting cars, and this time around I saw a beautifully restored 240Z being shown off by its owner, who spent a lot of time explaining the finer details of his car to middle aged women who looked like they wanted to escape. (Hey, it's about the car, not the owner...)

    I took some reference shots around the car and painted a pristine picture of the car. Out of courtesy, I sent the owner a watermarked screen capture. The painting wasn't for sale, but he sent back an email the next day saying "Nice job, love it, are you going to make prints available." I wrote back that he could buy a print if he wanted, but that I wouldn't get around to listing it for awhile as I was quite backed up.

    Two days later I get another email. "Quick note, we designed this car and built it out, we use it as our mascot and company image. We don't mind if you sell prints, but we demand our company website be listed prominently on each print, we demand a free print, and we demand 3% of all sales."

    This didn't give me warm fuzzies. Not sure what country's copyright laws he thinks he's living under, but I know someone like this would simply steal the art given half the chance, put his name on it, and I'd have a legal fight worth very little. Thus, it was obvious what the solution was... I decided the painting wasn't done.

    I guess he could tell folks I painted his car now, but then he might have to, at a minimum, explain the plates.

    I’d heard about Photobucket’s big change and how all old links have been severed. That **** for certain. Today, however, I uploaded the pick-up sketch from my Photobucket as usual and it appears that people can see it just fine. Perhaps the issue effected the people using the free version. I pay very little for extra storage and no ads, with the Pro acct. version.
    Maybe that has prevented me from the effect of the 3rd party changes. I need to look into it. Also, just because one worked doesn’t mean all will so I shall try again..
    First,
    direct from my computer hard drive I give you a cartoon sketch followed by a photoshop adjusted version of the came sketch. drawn from memory, with no reference so... details, shmetails...

    Now, an off topic sketch for your opinions....

    when your 11 year old aspiring baker gets an avocado green mixer for her birthday and you've spent some time behind a spray gun.

    Legally the guy had no standing whatsoever. Anyone can draw anything they want in this country. Think about the can of Campbell's Tomato Soup or Marilyn Monroe - both even copyrighted images that were then painted, becoming an artist's rendition. The clown also tried to say HE had the rights to that particular DATSUN design? Signed by the designer of the 240Z on the dash, no less? A total doob who has no idea of what he was talking about.

    If you have a picture of a car that you've done, it doesn't matter what the owner says, wants, or does. Until he or she puts their money down to purchase it, they can't do anything. And even if they purchase it, they still don't purchase the rights of reproduction. So no chipping away necessary. This clown simply would have stolen the image because he has no moral bearings and grew up being abused and dropped on his head. This was simply an anti-theft/middle finger.

    I can't really take that much credit for it, I took a vintage B&W photo and heavily modified it to colorize it and make it look like a painting.

    Here's the original photo;
