    What if...

What if you had a chance to fix something in a hot rod icon?

Bill Cushenberry's El Matador had three things
that always bothered me. One of those things is
that I believe that it was sectioned way too much.
Maybe it was just the style of the day; but I don't think
it held up well. Second is that the chop wasn't deep enough.
The third was the back window... way too big and the wrong shape.
My piece for this week shows my take on how it could look
    with a few updates.

There's no denying that the El Matador had about the best lines,
below the beltline, of any fat fender custom ever.
    Ahhhh... those fenders!

A true classic among custom rods!

No disrespect to the original - but I agree, it was kinda overdone in too many ways.

    Nice reduex.....

This one´s for Cab...Acrylic on canvas.

Is this art show gonna be as good as last weeks?
Hard to beat, but It´s worth trying... So post them!!!

  8. Cab, Gary, nice stuff.
    RobinB, you amaze me.

Here's the colored version of one I posted a few weeks back.

It's "Galaxie Launch" and this low image doesn't do justice to the origional.
(lots'a lost details ion the Pontiac grille.)

Then there's this one... (I posted it very late last week end and thought I'd try again. the story behind the design is on that previous post...)

    CAB-- diggin' it! Lucky kid....
Gary C., man.... every week is a tour de force of your wicked imagination! Sweet!
    Robin.... WHOA!!! Unbelievable!
Jigger-- nice on the extra detail!
    This week, I went "different"....
It started as a passing thought some years back, pondering "what if there was a second-generation Monte Carlo funny car?" Granted, the great Mickey Thompson had a Grand Am back in the early '70's, and it was a mean piece... with a VERY warped and contorted body....
It's another green car... maybe I'm in my green period... ("green period".... sounds like something that might happen to Frankenstein's wife...)

Here's just a little follow up from last weeks art show post. I stopped by Tom West's house on the way home from Primer Nats. Here are a couple detail shots of his work. The pics don't even come close to doing his cut aways justice. All pencil on mylar (or a vellum of some sort). They are usually put on a light table, then shot.

Here's something we did for a wild ol dude ,Mike Grey, from Randelman, N.C. Took it right down to bare metal ,then pulled out all the old skool stuff we could. Flake, Lace, airbrush, gold leaf, hand lettering and pinstriping. Mike looks a little worried ...thats his first run on completed car .

Brian that funny car is killer!!!!!

It's no secret that I'm a huge drag racing fan. I guess that kinda thing happens when you are born and raised around it. That said, here's the newest piece of useless crap that I just had to have. Pick it up tomorrow.

I believe Shirley was only sponsored by Pioneer from 1982-1984. In 84, she had a terrible wreck at the track in Canada. It destroyed her legs, and she spend years rehabilitating. This can't be from that car, because it was demolished.

So that leaves 1982 and 1983. I'm hoping for 1982, because that was the year she won her last world championship. She also won INDY, the biggest race of all. Either way, I'm stoked. My brother is going through the NHRA archives to let me know the exact year........especially shots from Indy.

It was painted by Bill Carter and Steve Stanford. The Styx logo makes me want to grow a bad mustache. i think pink is the new flat black.

Here's some older stuff I don't think I ever posted. It's a rattle can flame job with stripes on an old f/g fuselage mold that is yard art at a local nursery.

And a '67 bug I striped for a friend of my wife earlier this summer.

    This is Lil' Nick's work.

The red 53 ford owned by Joe Stawicki
(an eccentric milwaukee gearhead, this is a survivor show custom from the 60's, it features louvers, 57 t' bird grille, shag interior - it is currently unrestored & sitting in his garage, buried beneath GM seats)

The 30 A is owned by Mark "wingnutz"
(features a 455 olds rocket, quick-change rear, & bob bleed frame.)

The 65 falcon is dedicated to JAmes "nino" Sustache
(James passed away from violence. This art is a tribute for his father.)
