thanks. I always dig the simplicity of the underpainting myself, but it's just a starting point.

nick, i have been posting my art on this board since 2001. i dont think anyone commented on my stuff until last year. for me, i just love having a place to post my stuff along with like minded folks. i dont know of anywhere else i could be part of a group of traditional hotrod artists, sharing their stuff every week. the art show has really grown, and the pieces just seem to get better, and that really pushes me to try and keep up every week. i love to get a compliment as much as the next guy, but you have been doing it long enough to know you have to have some tough skin. ive got a couple of your pieces downloaded to my hard drive, so shut up and keep posting.

I understand the dilemma (see two weeks ago art show), but i talked to a feller named Max Grundy this weekend who does that killer propaganda hot rod stuff. Great guy to talk to (spent about an hour in his booth of sunday) and we got on the subject of art for arts sake, true artists, etc... and he had this to say (very much misquoted)

"It is the artist job to display his art, no matter what the subject, content, or skill level. It is irresponsible to be scared of what others might think or of criticism to your skill because you never know who will be influenced or inspired by what you do."

    last week or so's work.

I'm kinda with Zombie on this. I quit posting my stuff for awhile just cause with all the flashy colors of computer generated art I didnt think my was up to par. But I have come to realize that some people use a keyboard and others (like me) have a Sharpie and a brush in hand. And even if you dont like my stuff, some do (at least my mom says so).

    Keep posting your art!

Don't get discouraged. I've never met Cab, but I sure love his at***ude.

Art is where you find it.

Here's the envelope I mailed to my buddy Bob at French Kiss Kustoms. Had some markers on my desk, so I just started freehanding some trippy letters. Wake up the Man with some groovy art, ya dig? ;)

(Yes, the Post Office delivered it.)

Congrats on getting back to business, the new project kinda reminds me of your "banned in boston" poster. Or a large detail of that image.
I have a ton of your prints and always have fun seeing your new work.

    Here's a shirt I designed awhile ago...

    Carartnick.

I'm another artist who posts here because its with fellow artists who understand
the amount of work that goes into some of these pieces. Thanks to all of you for making me
feel at home. I just always hope that the art that I do will be enjoyed by others.
Yes you do have to have a tough skin for this line of work as I found out. At the Lonestar Roundup
I handed out over 250 business cards, and as far as I know I have not heard from anyone
since then, but that is OK as I will always continue to paint as long as I can.
To those who have purchased some of my paintings "Thank You".
Almost everything I've shown here on the Friday Show I still have. For sale if anyone is interested.
By the way, all of my stuff is hand painted except for those 2 photos I posted earlier.

    Keep posting Nick.

I'm sure other Hot Rod Artists are lurking...come and join in.
It is always good to see new artists joining the "Friday Show".

OK here's one I dug up. I don't think I posted it before. Maybe too Str**t Ro**er for some.

This is not my work; it's by my friend miQ willmOtt (yes, that's how he spells it). miQ was the manager of graphics on Hot Wheels for about 5 years, when I was at Mattel, and he is an astounding talent. Some of the decos he did for Hot Wheels, such as his Halloween specials, were the best that were ever done.

Anyway, miQ and his wife now live in Portland, and run a design partnership called TWEEQIM. This is a recent piece from him, and although it has nothing to do with cars per se, I thought it would appeal to the same sensibilities as tikis, monsters and the like. Here's his description of what it means:

"Xibalba is the ancient Mayan's version of hell..........it begins with a prince who was decapitated, then his head was buried. it grew out of some fruit tree (cant remember the fruit.....but huge things), and when it was presented with incense as a sacrificial offering, it vomited blood into the soil, which seeped into the earth, creating the 6 houses of Xibalba, which in order to get to, you had to cross a river of scorpions. the houses are individual, and hold their own terrors on humans.......house of Jaguar, of Bats, of Darkness, of Fire, of Ice, and of Blades. each house is represented in the main figurehead of the piece.
the diamond shapes in the black are Mayan stars, representing souls lost to this hell, as well as the split skull, and exposed heart, representing the physical body of the lost soul, and how it gives back to this hell, via, a circulatory system.
hope that helps.......its a hybrid of a lot of different versions...........there is an underlining theme of soccer in the story, believe it or not, that i just could not bring myself to address. i thought adding an ancient soccer ball would just be..........weird."

Whatever you say, miQ... It's just *****in'!

50fraud, miQ's work is astounding... look for some of his latest on soda cans.... he's unreal!

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE... phenominal show again this week!

Carartnick, don't be discouraged... as has already been said here by men more eloquent, probably smarter, and I'd bet much better-looking than I, we all post here because it's great to put some work out there, and just join the party! Where else can one find greats, legends and pure, untapped talent all posting on a level forum? Nowhere!! I live for the Friday Art Show, and, to me, anyway, it's the greatest informal gathering of friends anywhere. Everyone posts art with such diversity that you can't help but be inspired! There are weeks when a work that I think is killer gets no response... and yeah, it's disheartening at times, but you know what? I realize that I took part, and that alone is the greatest step. Rather than wonder "what if I WOULDA posted?", I'm left feeling accomplished that I created something, and I shared it with like-minded folk. I lurked forever here, intimidated... and found that by jumping in, that others were the same at first, and that by breaking the ice, and having our art (no matter how created) in common, that this was THE thing I needed to push myself... THE group of people I enjoyed the company of, even if via computer monitor (and phone in some cases.. in person in others... you get my drift).
I've made many great friends here, and learned a LOT, by asking and observing... I honestly believe that everyone here appreciates EVERY piece that gets posted... and rightly so!
I post to be a part of it, and hopefully nail down some work, too...(it's good to eat!), and it's not always as I hope... but it all comes down to sharing your art, and being a part of the greatest show on Earth! Imagine if we could do this in a brick-and-mortar location... even just once a year! Hell, imagine just trying to take it all in! (there are weeks when I'll look through the archives, and catch work I missed on the first go-round!)
I sincerely hope that you'll continue to post, and be a part of the Show... And I'm damn proud of everyone here, and thankful for the support everyone gives, as well as the friendships made here.
Viva la Show de Friday Arte! And damnit, we'll seee you next week, right Nick?

I was going to post this last week, but got side tracked. This is Desk Top Art Work #98 and is a "62 Caddy. This piece was an ordered Art Work. The customer picked it up this morning and was thrilled. The last pic is the guy's car. It is a real sweet ride. Gene

    Really cool stuff everyone.
50Fraud that piece your friend miQ did is awesome, it reminds me of some of Alex Grays DMT influenced incredible style. I don't understand how those types of peoples brains work, but damn they are great artist and that piece deserves an elaborate story as such to go with it. Just amazing.

I'm going to make a recommendation...
and it's in the form of a movie.

I think that this movie should be REQUIRED VIEWING
for everyone in the art community... whatever your skill level
    or artistic mind set.

The movie is "Art School Confidential"

here's the link... rent the movie!

Here's some older stuff I don't think I ever posted. It's a rattle can flame job with stripes on an old f/g fuselage mold that is yard art at a local nursery.

: Interesting to see restyled hot rod/ custom icon!

Everyone who don't own these I really recommend to buy eclipse sets. It really makes professional feeling to freehand artwork in most cases. This is not commercial.
