My very firstest Photoshop. Thanks to Zumo for doing a '53 for Dan a while back. I borrowed the quarter panel and the tires from two of them he did. I'm going to have to work to get better but I'm fairly happy with this one. Chopped, sectioned, lowered, pancaked, and treated to 54 Lee lenses and 54 headlight rings and fender line.

My second one. Court wants his truck to be a green and stock fender openings. Still sitting at 'stock' height from the picture I found on the web. Wheels and tires to change and ride height to drop.

Franco, I love watching your techniques advance forward with each new piece. You really nailed that subtle difference between the polished carbs and the chrome.

  13. G'day Jeff,
Bittersweet post. I don't even know what a new car brochure must look like. I guess I get enough through the press releases in the dailies.
You've posted some choice stuff here- the '62 G.P. & others similair are Fitzpatrick & Van Kaufman pieces. One of 'em did the backgrounds- the other did the car. Tag team !
I bet i can find plenty of detractors but I like a lot of modern car exterior design. It's pushin' out in various directions.Generally of the rest of the modern car I couldn't care less- too complex !

  14. They gotta look good under light- Good stuff.

Wasn't me. I know that Adamo from our club does them as well.

I just get bored some times and do them.

I'm wit'cha here, Jeff. I have a friend, Mike DiFazio, who used to do those for Chrysler. But I think that was back when illustrators weren't considered artists.

Like N.C. Wyeth and his contemporaries, the hoity-toity asswipes of the "so-called" art world spoke of all these fabulously talented people as though they were tainted, or just weren't 'good enough' to be called artists. They were "just" illustrators.

I had many of these brochures when they were new. I remember well and with great fondness, when the new cars had their debuts each September. There was great secrecy at the showrooms, with paper all over the windows so you couldn't see the new cars before their unveiling. It was an event much like a holiday season, with searchlights ablaze in the night skies lauding the arrivals!

Hell, each Fall, all through the '50s and much of the '60s, people used to get dressed up in their Sunday Best and take their families to the dealerships to see the new glitzy offerings. It was an amazing time. And these great renderings are all we have left to show for it.

It's way long overdue that these immensely gifted people get the recognition they're due. I'm proud of the fact that you've taken the initiative here, as well as other sites. It has to start somewhere. Good on ya!

    Bill
