That's drawn ENTIRELY in Illustrator by the way!

That might not mean a lot to some of these guys, but they can take my word for it, that is incredible.

Probably going to rant a bit here, but what the heck.
Jester you sir like anyone esle who contributes here are more than worthy. My work for example is not what I consider to be great, but I am happy with the level that I am at and I do not let my striping consume me.
Some of what consider to be my best pieces are done in solitude here in the old hot rod hang out. Here in an environment that I am conpletely comfortable and familiar with. A place that has little or no distractions. I place where I am at peace with the world most of the time. Be it working on one of my hot rods, building a model car, striping something or just hanging out listening to a CD and taking it all in. This is my place, this is my studio. When I am in here this is who I am.
Then there is the time that one must inlfict the world with ones works' and that can be very daunting. Will the world like that latest piece. I know from experience that it doesn't matter if the world doesn't like that piece. But is essential for us to show that piece to the world. I must point out I don't stripe for a living and I don't produce my work to sell. I can find the world to be very demanding in respect to 'them' wanting to buy one's work. So I take the easy way out and just don't offer it for sale. I find it interesting to display it. I do enjoy discussing my works and striping/art in general.
OK back to the reason for this post. Jester I think everyone here who contributes to the Friday Art posts is inspired. The beauty of art is that one can get so much out of it's diversity. From the most prefessional of works to the most amateurish of works and from anything in between. It is just great to come here and display to friends I have never met and may never well meet and know that they won't p*** judgement on one's work. But they will encourage and offer advice if the see the need.
OK sorry I have gone on for long enough. I could go on for hours and this isn't the palce Geoff aka Whodaky

Thanks man. It took along time... many hours. But it is worth it. I have done maybe 6 or 7 cars this way. I'll post another next week. This was the first illustration I did this way of any magnitude. Once it was done it kinda got me hooked because it comes out so crazily technical looking. What's cool is that since it is an EPS I can have it blown right up to billboard size and not lose any detail! [IMG]

I got a idea for a Pinstriping tech in the near future on designs to start out with to help the new stripers here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd love to see this tech.
I've tried doodling some designs during meetings, but I always get lost after a line or two. I'm just not used to thinking in that style.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know exactly what you are saying here, but, and it's kinda a big but, I always figured art comes from the heart not the head. So even tho I'm not used to thinking in lines I've tried to avoid copying and just practice different strokes. The stuff I did on my tool boxes is simply what came from practicing different approaches to pulling straight or curved lines.

Since then, I've probably been more concious of what the ork of others looks like and made a concious effort not to try and copy it straight up but develop my own style.. Of course in the end, there's stuff that's clearly been influenced by the work of others but I think the impoirtant thing is to simply let your heart guide what comes from the brush. Of course your head still has to play a part but that's mainly in controlling the pressure on the brush and keeping the lines consistent etc.

One of the best bits of advice I've read is from Von Franko in the Pinstriping Masters book, he leaves a mistake in his work and simply paints around it to include that blob as a feature of the piece. I've learned that sometimes it's better to do that because trying to fix it can really stuff up the work.

Something else I've learned, is that sometimes, too much really is too much. Also that what you think doesn't look right as you are painting it, may, if left a few days, actually appear just perfect once you're brain has had time to switch off and then come back and review that work without being influenced by your desire to keep going or add more.

I'm no expert or striping legend, so I hope I'm making sense here and actually helping rather than sounding like a smart****.

  11. Finally got the Hemi in my Dog, he's running much better now!
Actually this is a sculpture for Birmingham, Michigan. Artists in the area submitted ideas for "Dog Town", an event to raise money for the local Community House, kind of like the Cow Parade in Chicago. If your design was picked you were given a generic fibergl*** dog to decorate or change in some way. About 40 dogs are on display around the town for a couple months and later will be auctioned off.

  15. Great Art Show today guys! It gets better and better each week.

    Just a few notes...........

Jester: I BETTER see more of your work next Friday! Your doing good things, keep it up. It only gets better. It's guys like you, Whodaky, Dvlscoupe, S****metalart, Daddy-O that inspire me. I a big fan of striping. I can watch guys all day do it and never tire of it. We need more and more people getting into it, keeping the art alive. It's a great artform and business.

Carps and Whodaky: I could not agree with you more.

S****metalart: WOW is right. Keep it coming.

Dvlscoupe: Right on! Let's see more.

Daddy-O: I love the panel! How much?

Out of curiosity, did you put cloth or mat on top of the cardboard, or just resin straight on it?

One of the early kitplanes was made with heavy paper that had resin applied as panels - strong & lightweight when used in the correct application. I've often though of using it for door/kick panels, etc. but never have...
