here's some art I put together and framed. these "mats" were sent out to dealers back in the day for their local newspaper ads. I have a bunch of them as well as the order form and sales brochure showing what they had available.
these are from 1947. the mat part is about 4 X 2"

I guess those were inked up and run through a press to print posters maybe?

They were metal back in the day...but maybe I'm wrong and they did something different...

Hello,

The popularity of the 1926 Model T coupes and sedans are a given. Not as popular as the Model A or others, like the 1940 Fords. But, still with a following. This Thanksgiving Holiday came and went like a whirlwind. As far as commercial contents are concerned in advertising, it misses the mark and the Christmas holidays have taken over everywhere.

So, to keep the last vestiges of the Thanksgiving weekend alive and memorable, the Model T sedan was modified to become a new model, a 26 T woody station wagon with special features not in the old models from the "way-back" time machine. Front opening doors for the two door custom woody, roll down windows all around, a lift up rear door, and a roll down rear window to allow longboards to fit in place.

Completing a collapsible ramp with a new “Turkey Under Glass” main course in a heated enclosed cart.

To give the 1926 T some attitude, a chopped woody version was tried and it did not look too harsh with the slight chop. No Jolly Green Giant escapades, this time...

It would easily step in to take over the early delivery in time for dinner. YRMV

Note:
The neat thing for 4-5 years of our teenage timeline, for us, there was no after dinner clean up. Our parents could not wait to get two teenagers out of the house for the full 10 day extended vacation, alone.

For us, it was just gobs of left overs stashed in containers to take with us on our three day school vacation, then a 5 day vacation with and early dinner, then a full Friday night previous weekend to the last vestiges of late Sunday night driving home to Long Beach as tired teens.

A full 10 day vacation in November, just when the swells were perfect for the coastal adventures... Instead of a custom 26 T, it was the tireless 1940 Ford Flathead Sedan Delivery for our slow, but steady motoring to our final destination... YRMV

Can't even begin to compare to all the talent displayed each week but it's the best I've got. Fall color in SoCal is difficult to find.

 

Lo-lo. I like to spray a thin coat of clear over the decals in order to preserve them.

the flyer said these were reusable, I don't think they were inked. they were also made in metal like the one you showed. the flyer said to "check with your local newspaper to see if they can print this type". they had them for cars all the way back to 1934, they were used for newspaper ads for used cars. I also have "OK" mats for "OK used cars", and some guy with a megaphone shouting about the deals

 

A motorvated self portait Dennis?...we don't age in those do we...kind of like photographs...moments frozen in time...I've never done one. What is the meaning behind the dates...birthdays?

I think they nickname those trucks Pilothouses...you had a house of sorts on the back literally...A Hamber just finished one of those...trucks...they're odd and cool at the same time...

 

Interesting, I'd never have thought they were metal...are they painted? I know little about printmaking but I get it, inked and pressed with high printing and low not...

I used to do a different piece of artwork each year for my Mom's Birthday, went the full deal and had them matted and framed, and carefully packaged so that they would arrive safely at her address.
I was born in 53, and she was born in 32.
My dad was the one that got me interested in older International trucks.
Affectionately known as
"CORNBINDERS" That cool old 1955 S-110 pick up, already had the cool shake shingle dog house on the back, when I bought it.
I later sold the truck to a very good friend, that I have known for over 45 years, he still has it, and its heavily modified now.
I blanked out the wheels and the suspension to keep the Mods Happy.

 

When I was an apprentice printer, back in the early 70's, we would set type, and then, bake it into a mat board. Then the board was removed, and a piece of "dead" rubber was laid across the mat board. This was then put in a hydraulic oven, that squeezed and baked the rubber into the mat board.. After around 12 minutes, the pressure was released, and the rubber plate was removed from the mat board. The rubber plate was then taped onto a cylinder grinder, that leveled the back of the rubber plate. The rubber plate was then mounted on a double sided sticky back, that held it in place on the printing cylinder. We would get "cuts" like the ones you have pictured in your first thread. Some were mounted on wood blocks, that made them "type high".
