    Hello,

In our old Westside of Long Beach neighborhood, a Mobil Gas Station was almost the center of the whole main street in the community. Some friends of our mom and dad owned the gas station and mechanics shop in the back portion of the property.

Every day we would walk to and from our elementary school nearby, we would stop and say hello. On hot days, the front shop had the coldest Cokes in an old flip lid cooler. We usually save enough to buy one and visit the station. In the back parking area a somewhat lowered black Mercury Sedan was always parked there.

We always thought it was as big as our dad’s 49 Buick Roadmaster. It looked heavy and solid.

But, as we grew into driving age, that black Mercury was still there, but now, we were into hot rods and high performance sedans. That old Mercury sedan just looked out of place. It was a cruiser bar none and not a drag racing sedan. “to each his own…”

We still stopped at the gas station, but, now, for gas, oil and sometimes a lube in the back garage lift. So, our ties as little kids continued until we move away after college. That old Mercury still had its “private” parking place in the lot or sometimes it was in one of the empty garage stalls.

As we got older, our activities changed and we needed a vehicle that allowed us to sleep and camp out when we went on our surf trips up and down the So Cal coastline. At the time, I finally bought a flathead powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. The mechanic loved the sedan delivery and offered to tune it for great running any time, anywhere. He was our local Flathead expert and excellent pin point problem overall mechanic. We asked him first, if we could not figure anything out on our cars.

When the years rolled on, I always thought of that big black Mercury and how it would have been if it had been a sedan delivery for our surf road trips. Bigger, wider and would easily fit at least two surfboards inside and or on surf racks if more were going on the road trips. YRMV

A slight chop, a set of modified Lincoln taillights, front opening doors, etc.

    Hey @Ron Funkhouser
I like your Stude art as well.
I am still amazed at how futuristic, the designs of Raymond Lowey were, back in the 50's,
This particular Studebaker caught my eye at the recent Estranged drags at Toutle Washington.
From every angle, this car is truly a work of art!
    Thanks from Dennis.

Old friend needed a pair of doors for his '65 Chev pickup he'd had since new. I had a couple, so he asks me what I want for 'em. He's an artist, so I suggest he do a car painting for me .... HPIM7502.JPG

Man @McPhail , t hose Koolsville, Wichita, KS ink proofs made me nostalgic for this old "Coffinesque" sketch i did for the FAS some 12 years ago, or more.

... and, for kicks, some old doll sketches from the early days on the FAS, for me anyway...
