Jim, months of 18-hour days, using a Micron and an Iwata gun shooting goauche. the man's a workaholic. not one stage of the job is computer-aided, either- he despises the things! one very heartening thing I found is that his studio's as much a cluttered nightmare as mine, plus he's got 2 parrots in there with beaks like Vise-Grips- they'll snap your ear off if you aren't aware.
I have never posted to an Art show but thought why not show off some of the work I have had done. This was done by Dirty of Dallas..... Just thought I would share.....
Thanks, Grim! it's indeed easy to forget the fun stuff's why one does this kind of work in the first place. it's mandatory. you ought to see the pile of reference photos Kimble starts with. he showed me a Northstar cutaway and the attendant stack of photos he shot as the engine was ***embled at GM, every last damn component. now, I always thought he started with manufacturer-supplied plan drawings and such but the guy's a top-flight engineer on top of being a top-flight illustrator, so that means he starts from scratch every time. my jaw's all red and rough on the bottom from dragging it around, plus I must have said "remarkable", "astounding" and "amazing" about 500 dozen times. not only did he know Rex Burnett and Leo Goosen, who did all the drawing for Offenhauser and worked for Miller before that, but also Dutch, Ed Roth, Rob't Williams [with whom he shares a p***ion for collecting some scary WWll stuff] and darn near every racecar driver from then 'til now. I have soooooo much to learn....
Great show everyone, that GutterPunks piece is killer! I've got a couple of contributions this week. First is a '62 Galaxie fender spear (now used as a hood ornament). Flying eyebal done in one shot, the wings can be seen on the spear in the background. That's a quarter beside the eyeball for size comparison. Second is a stool my wife uses in her art room but constantly complained about it not being padded. Solution - 2" foam and a 2-tone tuck and roll. Last one for today, some stripes on my plastic toolbox Thanks for lookin' Bill
Did a bunch of new stuff this week and was going to photgraph it last night. Unfortunately had a mishap with the digital. They don't like being dropped from a height. Ah well these things happen. So here is 4 images I had on file, I may have posted them in the past! Sorry for those who have seen them before! As usual a few model shots. This is a model I did of my own coupe (when it used to be in these colors). It was built using the Ertl 1/18th diecast American graffitti coupe as the basis. I have never got around to amking the BVILLE license plates for the model, just like the real coupe has! Geoff aka Whodaky
Hey Geoff, I'm still working on those multi thickness lines, but it's got me licked how you do em. And those patterns, you must drive your local shrink nuts. Was down your way during the week, appears you guys have had some wet weather. Called in to Datsfa's place just in time to see the result of his big concrete water tank bursting at the seams and trying to drown the Caddy. Man what a mess.
[ QUOTE ] Looks great everyone, Love the lines Carps, [/ QUOTE ] Thanx, I appreciate the encouragement. Still not too sure about those two pieces. I think the idea is sound, but the execution could be better. Dunno if it was the choice of colours or whaat. I prefer the second one where I tried to stripe in the spaces around the car pics and where I went over the cars I tried to make the lines flow with the lines of that particular photo. Thinking maybe I should rub them both out and do them over, using strongre colours.. Practice makes perfect, or whatever it was my old man tried to teach me. [ QUOTE ] George, Josh, Daddy-o, 00 mack, Django, and Wet paint... [/ QUOTE ]]. And the fresh ideas, thanx everybody. [ QUOTE ] Due to illness I haven't painted at all this week.... [/ QUOTE ] Pretty ordinary when you're too crook to paint or whatever... hope you're feelin better.
Mr Carps, I ain't game to go to no shrink, I am sure I would be committed. Which the rest of the world would may see as a good thing , but who knows. I think it's a big plus being kinda clazy when one trys to prooduce clazy art work. Multi thickness lines. Which one's do you mean? Yeah has been a little wet here. datsfa?

[/ QUOTE ] Ian 'Datsfa' Shaw. What I mean is how you get one fat line, then next to it a skinnier one and then a really skinny one. I can do aall thicknesses but it's usually all in the one line, if yya know what I mean. I'm with ya on the shrink deal, there's a few I know for sure would love to get me on the couch.
Thick lines, thin lines in between lines. Side by side, over and under. I don't know I just do it. Can't let you in on all my hidden secrets. See all those times you were looking over my shoulder with that camera, Mr Carps. You should have been paying attention. A lot to be learnt in this world from paying attention! And paying attention doesn't mean asking stupid questions! Geoff aka Whodaky
Whodaky- The grafitti body on the black '32 roadster ch***is with it's grill shell and hood? That looks killer! What did you make the hood sides from? You do some very cool stuff with die cast!
[ QUOTE ] done in the pitch black of night in a drunken stupor under a flashlight [/ QUOTE ] I'd have to be tanked and under the dark of night to touch that car too.
Yes K&R. On the roadster ch***is, modified. Roadster hood, narrowed at rear with a pie cut, because the coupe body is narrower than the roadster body. Hood sides made from aluminium. Along with a lot of other mods. Hand made aluminiun I-beam ( should do a tech on that one day! ). I am really pleased how this one turned out. Yeah diecast is a challenging medium to work in. Glad you like the coupe model, K&R Geoff aka Whodaky
i cheated, the image is a printed vinyl sticker made by a local sign shop, sixty bucks. the lettering is one shot, free. it looks better in person. tred.
OK have to add the seat that was just done for me for my fathers knuck bobber im helping him with.... done by duane ballard ratfink.inked@verizon.net all handttooled leather!! man i think this is the baddest seat in the world!
Tha seat is purty neat. Cool stuff fellas. Here is a little pile of **** I made with some of that awful sculpy junk. I had $2 extra so I bought a package of that stuff...was kinda nasty to work with, maybe my package was old and a little dried up??... Oh well, it was fun and I like the little guy.
Did you buy regular sculpy (white) or the super sculpy Flesh colored Because belive me I use the super sculpy now and its worlds better than the reg. Its a little firmer so every time you touch it it dosent **** it up. I really didnt do **** this week I dont think I'll have to dig through the piles of half done **** I have artistic A.D.D.
Here is a panel I did A peice of cardboard I spray painted And thought I'd do something different on one of the shift knobs. [image][/image]
VT, those are cool as hell, I need one for the g***er. how much? Great show again guys! Thanks for posting
