One of the principals of the Frog Follies in Evansville Ind. passed away Feb 14th. Richard Bonenberger was 76. He was an avid hot rodder with quite a collection of cars.
Well now, that’ll put a wrench in the equation. The Frog Follies has been a bucket list item for me since I was a kid. Prayers for his family, friends and fellow hot rod hoodlums.
I’ve been attending for over 30 years. 2025 is the 50th and probably the last year to be 48’ and below. I hope you can make it.
I've got to be honest, I get a little choked up thinking that, my long time friend and hot rod mentor is going to miss the 50th. I miss you Rick!
Sorry to hear of your friend Richard's passing. Regarding the 50th potentially being the last year for 48 and older, what is the reasoning for that? I'm sure car counts have dwindled as hot rodders age out, but is there some REAL reason it HAS to remain attended by a certain minimum number of cars/people? Lynn
I've been told there is some inner club turmoil over it. I've heard a car count number from a club member. If its a car count number driven decision, the number I was told shouldn't be hard to maintain. I think you have hot rodders in the club that want to keep it pre '49 and you have members that are wanting to generate as much money as they can to give away, for selfish reasons. If they open it up, I'm thinking that I may will start a small pre '49, just for fun deal, here in Evansville, in one of our parks. Fall time, small venue, BBQ kinda deal
I, for one, quit going to NSRA events when they started letting "new" cars in. I have several friends who did the same. Frog Follies are one of the few good shows left and I'd hate to see it ruined. Just a little further east and you can get to Lloydfest III; a "small, just for fun, deal." I drive 10 hours to get to Lloydfest and won't drive 3 hours to go to an NSRA event. In October we'll be driving 12 hours to get to a get together with about 20 car folks. If you do start something I sure hope to get an invitation.
