The FROG FOLLIES are in two weeks. Their will be 3500 to 4000 PRE-49 hot rods in Evansville, IN. august 23-25. Just a laid time with a bunch of car guys. The swap meet looks to pretty good also. If anyone needs info let me know. Thanks, Rick Bonenberger 33 Ford Sedan Delivery 32 Ford Phaeton
As I've said many times, if the Good Lord told me I could only do one event a year, would be no decision - the Frog Follies..been going since 1977 and will be there in 2012 again! The swap meet is super and growing every year...and you can still get a sausage sandwich for a buck and a drink for 50 cents! Preregistration is still 15 bucks and you get a free T shirt...where else you gonna find that deal? And most importantly it will always be pre-49!
Can't wait. Agree it is a great show and plan to drive down early Friday morning and stay the weekend.
Nice show, I guess it's one of the last 'big' pre-48 shows in this part of the country... SUPER swap meet, and the show is really a bargain, IIRC it's $15 to register, and that INCLUDES an event T-shirt and a meal. Unfortunately we can't make it this year. Saw my old buddy NORM there last year...
OK, Rick I need some info, is it going to rain or be dry and hot? (...he he he!!!) Signed, Bare steel in missouri
Come see me at my pinstriping booth.I will have my 2 10x20 tent set up like always.Freehand pinstriping while you wait. Great show put on by great people...
Heard about the frog follies for 30 years..went last year for the first time and had a ball..four of us from charleston sc peeling out again this year..best rod run in the country...
I've never been to the frog follies but I may go this year. Where are some good places to place to stay, anything close by? I'm thinking it may be to far from Indy to go for just the day.
If you don't have a hotel/motel room in Evansville by now, forget it. You may want to try Henderson, KY its just across the river from Evansville.
There are rooms available in Evansville. Try Hampton 812-473-5000 Drury 812-471-3400 Days Inn 812-473-7944 These are on the east side of town just off 164 and 66. If you have problems finding a room let me know. Yesterday at our meetling the pre register count was 3478, so it will somewhere around 4000. Thanks Rick
This is no joke, its one of the best shows in the nation. My wife & I lived in Evansville for 3 years and we went every year. Prices at the swap meet are great and there's always a few nice solid project cars for $3,000 or less. The show cars are plentiful and you also see them running around all over town all weekend. Lots to see & do and the spread is a little bit of everything. If anyone is in the market for a vintage gas pump, go see a swap space near the ice cream stand. A guy named Jeff Middleton usually brings a truck full. Always great to see. Bottom line: If you're on the fence or have never been here, you need to go to this show!!! PM me if anyone wants advice on the other important tips like good restaurants and watering holes.
The best restaurant is the Hornets Nest. Go out the main entrance of the 4H Center, make a right, cross hwy 44 and go straight about 2 miles. You won't be sorry.
I have gone many years, but never stayed overnight. For you local guys: This year I have a room at the Quality Inn East on Morgan Ave. Anyone know if this is a safe hotel lot to leave my truck in overnight? I've heard enough about cars being stolen overnight at other shows, hopefully this hotel I picked will have a lot of rods in the lot, and some security?
Said it many times: If you've never been and have the opportunity, you should definitely go. It's a fun time. 1998
This will be my 4th year in a row. This is the best show I have ever been to.Not to big you can't see it all but not a small local show.My registraion no. is 3200 and somethig.
36dodge, I have stayed at the Quality Inn on Morgan Ave. Its safe and in close proximity to a lot of restaurants.
We used to stay at the Holiday Inn just a few miles up the road. It was an ok place...14 years ago....
Anyone wanna stop and pick me up on their way in? Ill be going for the 20 somethingth time without a car kinda starting to wonder what it feels like... I live about 2 miles from the 4h in evansville my whole life. You wont be dissappointed. Ill be wondering around there all 3 days. For food, I would recomend the Log Inn if you are willing to wait. Roca bar and Los Tres caminoes are right out on the highway there and are solid too.
Thanks Gman, we'll be heading south early Friday morning. This will be my first long drive since I finished the truck, a three hour trip.
Just talked with Rob the swap meet chairman and he said the swap and vendor count should be more than last year. Only a week away Rick.
