I'm restoring/building a 1964 Dodge Polara. It was a 318 car that will soon become a 426 (based) wedge street/strip car. I have drag raced cars since I was 14 years old and have been in, or at the drags every year since. I got to see the early street races in Cleveland at places like The Flats and a really cool place called The Tennis Courts down by the shore-way. The Flats was on desolate streets where we could see the fuzz coming in time to get away...mostly anyway. The Tennis Courts is now the site of the Soap Box Derby hill. This was a narrow set of asphalt lanes that was used to get to and from some tennis courts slightly above. They were just over 1/8 mile, but they were mostly flat so...it was a race track for us. The bad part was to stop you had to go up on the gr*** hill that was the side of the shoreway by Edgewater. It was EXCITING to say the least...because if the race was close and you were staying committed to the race you could end up on the shoreway. Many times we did.

Welcome to the HAMB. I have a 64 Polara 500 318 car that will be getting a 500 Cube RB motor in it. Looking forward to seeing your build. Don't be afraid to drop me a line if you want to talk about our cars.
