Is there someone out there who can help me identify whether I have a 36 or 37 model year axle under my 36 Ford? Any significant differences which would make identification easy/simple? When I bought the car, I was told that it had a '37 front axle and I don't know why it might have been changed. The wishbone has been split/bent and attached to the side frame rails to facilitate installation of a small block Chevy engine, but I ***ume one could do that with a '37 axle as well. Also, it has been equipped with front disc brakes via a steel caliper bracket bolted to what would have been the backing plate mounting flange and equipped with disc rotors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can send me a PM or reply to this post.
A pic would the easiest. The difference is the distance between the king pin and where the bone is bolted to the axle. The 37 would have very little space there to do a dropped axle. The 36 has a lot more space there, Use the chart to compare that distance. edit; Rocky is correct on the 2-1/4 boss on the 37, vs 2" on 36
