Not to hijack the thread but I like the bottom of the barrel '59 and '60s the most. My wife has a '60 Brookwood wagon that I drive just about everyday.
My dream is a '59 Biscayne with a tri-power 348 and a 4 speed with chrome reverse wheels, blackwall bias plys and a rake. Oh and no heater or a radio.

yes,i agree with nads...i don't think i'd trust that axle either. i'd at least have the welds magnafluxed.there is a lot of stress out on the ends.i know a guy who narrowed an original axle in the center,he was a pipe fitter with superior welding skills.

as long as we are talking about dropped axles here, and there is another thread going about dropping your own and safey of them...has anybody ever heard of an original dropped axle failing?.... or a new CE,magnum(both forged)?.....superbell (cast)? ...... i heard about a tube axle with welded ends(butch's rod shop) failing years ago...but never an I-beam. i think as long as it's cooled slowly,an original forged axle should be safe to drop

[/ QUOTE ] ....................................................................AS FAR AS I KNOW GREG BOTH THE MAGNUM AND SUPERBELL ARE BOTH THE CAST ONES CE BEING THE ONLY AFTER MARKET FORGED... IVE HEARD OF A SUPERBELL TUBE SNAPPING AND ONE OF THE CAST ONES, FROM A SEVERE ABRUPT IMPACT , WHICH MAKES ME THINK THE ALUM ONE MIGHT BE A LITTLE DICEY TOO, BUT WITH THAT KINDA IMPACT THE AXLE IS PROBELY THE LEAST WORRY I HAVE HOWEVER SEEN A STOCK ONE BENT IN A PRETZLE AROUND THE MOTOR FROM HITTING A WALL AT 60MPH...NEVER BROKE................AS FAR AS MOR-DROP FORGET IT!.... IF YOU TAKE ON THERE ITS FALLEN INTO THE BLACK HOLE ..MY BOSS HAS HAD ONE THERE FOR 6 MONTHS AS FAR AS THE GUY IN AZ THE RECIPTS IVE SEEN ARE FROM YOUNG FABRICATION IF THAT HELPS ANYONE THE WORST IVE SAW FROM A 4" DROPED AXLE WAS THE END FLEXING AFTER THE PERCH WHEN YOU TRY TO STEER THE CAR WHILE ITS STANDING STILL WITH OLD STYLE STEERING. I KINDA LIKE TITUS'S AXLE I WOULDNT BE AFRAID OF TRYING ONE..
